Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Roggen, Colorado. Specializing in hair analyses for both drugs and alcohol, our services are available nationwide, including in all major cities. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is typically required. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and provide other specialized options for a variety of testing needs.

Recently, the implementation of hair follicle testing for drug detection has gained traction. Employers, legal entities, and Substance Abuse professionals are increasingly opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle testing is favored by employers with strict drug policies, legal courts, and for monitoring individuals on probation due to its long detection window of up to 90 days, supervised collection process, and difficulty in tampering. However, urine tests remain the preferred method for recent drug use detection within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a significant method for identifying the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and other drugs as biomarkers embed within the growing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hairs (about a #2 pencil's width) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample for testing and analysis. For EtG, extras, and/or panels above 10, a 150mg specimen is advisable. We suggest measuring the specimen with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unavailable, a comparable amount of body hair may be taken. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result includes four steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the sample's initial entry into a lab's system. This process confirms the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial rapid examination for substance abuse. Although Screening is an economical way to eliminate drug presence in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for legal validity. Samples that are tentatively positive in Screening demand a secondary affirmation.

If a sample registers positive in the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. At this step, drugs are extracted from hair in far lower concentrations versus other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which contributes to the complexity of hair drug screening.

The Confirmation of any positive screening result occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as needed. The overarching lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and conforms to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, while urine tests have a more limited timeframe.
  • Hard to manipulate: Hair drug tests are notably difficult to falsify, offering more precise results.
  • Historical insight: It traces drug use over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot spot recent usage: It requires about 5-7 days for drugs to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Roggen, CO, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing through enhanced accuracy and dependability. Notably, hair tests cover a far greater detection range by identifying drug use up to 90 days back, unlike urine tests that cover a shorter span. This expanded range is invaluable for organizations enforcing stringent drug policies and offers a clearer assessment of a person’s long-term drug habits.

Employers in Roggen, CO prefer hair follicle testing over urine testing due to its superior detection capabilities and resistance to tampering. Where urine tests might overlook or misreport drug usage, hair testing provides consistency and reliability that support a zero-tolerance policy effectively. Enhanced accuracy and resistance to manipulation make this method a preferred option.

Extended Detection Window

One of the major advantages of hair follicle testing in Roggen, CO is its extended drug detection window of up to 90 days. This offers a long-term overview of an individual's substance usage, providing more comprehensive insights for employers during the hiring and monitoring processes. A retrospective look over such a significant period is invaluable when evaluating the compliance of employees or prospective hires with drug-free policies.

Compared to other testing methods, hair follicle testing provides Roggen, CO businesses with a thorough understanding of an individual's drug history. Its capability to detect substances far beyond the timeframe that urine tests allow significantly supports informed decision-making. By assessing drug use over an extensive period, it aids in maintaining a drug-free workplace.

In Roggen, CO, the hair follicle testing method offers enhanced protection against sample tampering. By significantly reducing the risks of adulteration that can occur with other methods, this testing approach ensures the validity and reliability of the results. Employers benefit from this assurance, confident in the integrity of the results that clearly reflect the subject's drug use history.

Hair follicle testing in Roggen provides a tamper-resistant solution, making it difficult to manipulate results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
