In Astor, Florida, Accredited Drug Testing offers hair follicle drug testing services. If you require a hair drug or alcohol evaluation, our expertise lies in hair testing, with centers available in every city. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is ideal. We offer analyses for substances, alcohol/ETG, and personalized testing options.

The hair follicle drug test has become a vital component in drug testing. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts now prefer it over conventional urine exams. This method suits entities with stringent drug policies, judicial bodies, and individuals under probation's watch. A significant advantage is its 90-day detection window, but urine tests remain superior for identifying recent use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a formidable means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When harvested near the scalp, hair can offer a detection timeframe for alcohol and other drugs of up to roughly three months. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and convenient for transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with about 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding ten, it is advisable to use 150mg of the specimen. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen is suggested. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be collected. In reference to head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair; body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory process of a drug test result consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning incorporates the preliminary handling of a sample within a laboratory's system. This process includes checking that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data entry missing from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening executes an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening offers an economical approach to exclude drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation to be legally valid. For samples indicating a positive result during Screening, a secondary confirmation is necessary.

In cases of a presumptively positive sample during the Screening phase, more hair is taken from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at a considerably lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex to administer.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive are washed before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, adheres to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection gamut: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for as long as 90 days, while urine tests have a shorter detection window.
  • High difficulty in manipulation: Cheating a hair drug test is arduous, thus enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Chronological data provision: It can outline a user's drug use pattern over a span, not only recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapability to identify recent use: It takes 5-7 days for drugs to appear in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other drug testing methods.
  • Result fluctuations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Despite often being termed "hair follicle tests", the actual test examines the hair strand and not the hair follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Astor, FL, showcases remarkable benefits over traditional urine tests. While urine tests only capture recent use, hair testing offers a broader detection span, ensuring more comprehensive data on substance use. Its higher accuracy rate makes it an attractive choice for those seeking reliable results.

Unlike urine tests with limited scope, hair testing provides a long-term detection window, effectively capturing a wider range of substance use incidents. This makes it a preferred option for comprehensive assessments.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Astor, FL, offers employers a detailed look into an individual's drug use history. By analyzing hair, this method can trace substance use patterns for up to 90 days, providing a comprehensive overview of an individual's habits, crucial for informed employment decisions.

With its ability to detect drug use over months, hair testing presents an invaluable tool for employers. Unlike short-term tests, it grants insights into long-term substance habits, aiding in more informed personnel evaluations.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Astor, FL, hair follicle tests are renowned for their tamper-resistant nature. Unlike urine tests, which can be susceptible to adulteration, the hair testing method significantly minimizes manipulation risks, ensuring authentic and credible outcomes.

The reliability of hair comprehensive testing lies in its resistance to tampering. This method ensures that results remain incontestable, providing a foolproof alternative for those needing genuine substance use insights.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
