Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services throughout Clark, Florida. Whether you need drug or alcohol testing, we are experts in hair testing. With centers in every U.S. city, we ensure you can easily access our services. Generally, you’ll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body for testing. Our hair tests check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, along with other customized options.

Hair follicle tests have gained popularity in drug testing due to their thoroughness. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals are increasingly opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Used by those with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationers, hair tests offer a longer detection window of up to 90 days. Though urine tests remain accurate for recent use, hair tests are collected under strict observation, minimizing tampering.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a robust method for identifying substance use. Hair retains a prolonged record of substances by trapping biomarkers within its strands as they grow. When taken near the scalp, the hair offers a detection span of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair samples is straightforward, not easy to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A hair sample of 1.5 inches with around 200 strands (akin to a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp produces 100mg, an optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, extras, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale is suggested to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn't obtainable, a similar quantity of body hair is an alternative. Referring to head hair means exclusively scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The main stages in processing a lab drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial processing of the sample in the lab system. It consists of verifying proper sealing and sending of the sample, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any additional data entry not covered by an electronic custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary assessment for drug usage. While Screening is a budget-friendly method to dismiss drug presence in most samples, a confirmed screen is necessary for court validity. Samples that show positive signs in Screening necessitate a follow-up confirmation.

Should Screening suggest a positive result, extra hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are derived from hair at a notably lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a complex methodology.

Positive screen confirmations are conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, all presumptive positive samples undergo a wash as deemed necessary. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the entire lab process complies with both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify substance usage for as long as 90 days, compared to the shorter urine test detection period.
  • High resistance to tampering: Hair drug test results are more reliable due to the difficulty in falsifying them.
  • Historical substance use data: It provides a record of substance use patterns over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to show up in hair strands.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally costs more than other testing methods.
  • Variability in results: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentration levels in hair.

Note: Although known as "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair strand itself rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Clark, FL

When comparing hair follicle testing with traditional urine tests, the former stands out with superior detection capabilities and reliability. Hair testing provides a broader detection window, catching drug use over several months. This contrasts dramatically with urine tests, which are limited to detecting recent use.

Moreover, hair follicle tests offer a strict observation process, lowering chances of cheating, unlike urine tests which can be adulterated. This results in more accurate drug history data, helping employers maintain a drug-free work environment while reducing potential risks associated with undetected substance use.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Clark, FL

One major advantage of hair follicle testing is its ability to detect substance use over an extended period, up to 90 days. This far surpasses the short detection span of urine tests. Employers gain a detailed insight into the ongoing substance habits of an applicant or employee, aiding in better decision-making.

By analyzing hair strands, employers in Clark, FL can observe long-term patterns of drug use, ensuring they have a comprehensive view of an individual's substance history. With the extended detection window, hair testing provides clarity and reliability in assessing potential hires or monitoring current staff.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
