Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Cutler Ridge, Florida. If hair or alcohol testing is needed, our expertise in hair testing is unparalleled, with test centers available in all cities Nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is required for analysis. Hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or custom options.

Recently, many have shifted towards using hair follicle drug tests over traditional methods. Businesses, judiciary systems, and substance abuse experts often mandate hair drug tests in lieu of urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationers prefer this method due to its longer detection window of up to 90 days, observed sample collection, and near-immunity to tampering. Nonetheless, testing recent drug use within 5 days still favors urine tests.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has gained recognition as a noteworthy method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand, offering an extended history of alcohol and other substances. When taken close to the scalp, hair can offer up to around a 3-month detection timeframe for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of about 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For tests including EtG, add-ons, and/or those beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. Should scalp hair be absent, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be retrieved. When discussing head hair, we refer specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases involved in the laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial processing of a sample into a lab’s system. This process includes verifying the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening encompasses an initial rapid check for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to rule out drug usage in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples deemed presumptively positive in Screening do necessitate a subsequent confirmation.

If a sample is deemed presumptively positive during the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a considerably lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleaned prior to confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, contrasted with urine tests that have a briefer detection window.
  • Cheating difficulty: It is exceptionally challenging to cheat a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical data provision: It can reveal a pattern of drug use over a duration, beyond just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It takes roughly 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally entail higher costs compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variances: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Cutler Ridge, FL, offers compelling advantages over traditional urine tests. Detection accuracy is significantly enhanced, as hair samples eliminate the chance of tampering and provide a more reliable measure of substance use. Additionally, this method boasts a much longer detection period, offering an extensive view of the individual's drug usage history.

Traditional urine testing loses out to hair follicle testing due to the comprehensive nature of the latter. In contrast to the short detection window of urine tests, hair tests capture evidence of substance use over three months. Employers in Cutler Ridge, FL, can make more informed decisions, ensuring a safer work environment with hair testing's superior detection methods.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Cutler Ridge, FL, sets it apart as a leading method for monitoring drug use histories. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
