Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug screening services in Eldridge, Florida. For those in need of hair or alcohol testing, our firm excels at hair examinations, with testing sites available in every city nationwide ready to conduct your test. Typically requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair either from the head or body, these tests can measure substances, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for other specific hair testing purposes.

In recent times, there's been a growing shift towards using hair follicle drug tests for substance screening. Many employers, legal entities, and substance abuse experts now prefer hair tests instead of traditional urine tests. These tests are favored by organizations with strict no-drug policies, the judiciary, and individuals on probation. With a maximum detection span of 90 days, verified under observation, they are nearly impossible to manipulate. Yet, for recent drug activity within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers an extensive timeline of substance intake by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair can indicate drug or alcohol presence for up to three months. It's easy to collect, not easy to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches in length, consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, yields 100mg, which is optimal for analysis. For more detailed testing, such as with EtG, additional panels, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. It's best to weigh samples using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't accessible, a comparable amount from the body may be used. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of test results consists of four core steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, samples are initially processed into the lab's system, including verification of proper sealing and shipping, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not available through electronic chains of custody.

Screening is a preliminary assessment aimed at detecting drug misuse. Although cost-effective for a majority of samples, a positive result in Screening needs confirmation for legal use. Samples that are initially presumptive positive require further confirmation.

For presumptive positives during Screening, additional hair is obtained from the initial sample for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extracted at a much lower concentration than other methods (like urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing a complex process.

Any positive Screening results must be confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. Every laboratory step from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use spanning up to 90 days, whereas urine tests cover a shorter duration.
  • Cheating is minimal: This testing method is hard to compromise, ensuring accurate results.
  • Shows usage pattern over time: Provides a history of drug consumption, unlike other methods that show only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Recent use undetectable: Drugs only become detectable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be costlier than alternative testing methods.
  • Variability in outcomes: Factors like hair color and individual growth differences can influence metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", this refers to testing the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Eldridge, FL, hair follicle testing offers distinct advantages over traditional urine tests. Detection accuracy is a standout feature, delivering more reliable results. While urine tests can detect recent drug use, hair tests offer a broader detection window, identifying substance use over time and providing a comprehensive view of an individual's habits.

Extended Detection Window

With a detection window extending up to 90 days, hair follicle testing offers an impactful overview of an individual's substance use history in Eldridge, FL. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
