Accredited Drug Testing provides extensive hair follicle drug screening services in Falmouth, Florida. For hair drug or alcohol testing, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with centers across all cities Nationwide ready to conduct such tests. Ideally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of the head or body is required for testing. Our hair evaluations can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or cater to specific hair testing needs.

Recently, the preference for hair follicle drug testing has grown. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals now favor hair tests over the traditional urine tests. These hair tests cater to companies with zero-tolerance drug policies, judicial bodies, and individuals on probation. The key advantage of hair testing lies in its longer detection span of up to 90 days, ensuring collected samples are secured under observation, making tampering nearly impossible. Meanwhile, urine tests remain the most reliable for detecting recent drug use within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

Over time, hair testing has emerged as an effective method for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of the developing hair. Hair proximal to the scalp can indicate usage of alcohol and drugs up to a roughly 3-month period. It's easy to procure hair, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

An ideal screening and confirmation sample consists of a 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (akin to a #2 pencil) near the scalp, yielding 100mg of hair. For EtG, additional tests, or screenings exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. We advocate using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen. In cases where scalp hair isn't available, a comparable amount of body hair can be utilized. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, whereas "body hair" encompasses other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory's analysis of drug test outcomes encompasses four principal phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the sample's preliminary integration into the laboratory’s framework. This phase ensures the sample was appropriately sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputs any missing data not captured by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening provides an initial assessment for substance abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use in most cases, a positive result must be validated for legal acceptability. All preliminarily positive samples during Screening warrant follow-up confirmation.

In instances where Screening indicates potential positivity, additional hair from the initial sample undergoes preparation for Extraction. At this stage, substances are extracted from hair at lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting the complexities of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screening is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positives are washed ahead of confirmation as needed. The comprehensive lab process, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair label and in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug testing can reveal substance use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection span.
  • Challenging to deceive: The precision of hair drug tests is enhanced due to their resistance to tampering.
  • Chronic use insight: Beyond recent consumption, it delivers a drug use pattern over time.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect immediate use: Hair takes about 5-7 days for drugs to be detectable.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing typically incurs higher costs than alternative methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual growth disparities can affect drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Often labeled "hair follicle tests", the actual analysis focuses on the hair shaft, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Falmouth, FL, hair follicle testing demonstrates a clear edge over traditional urine tests. The precision and reliability of hair testing surpass those of urine testing by providing a more thorough substance use history, extending detection periods significantly. Employers and legal bodies trust hair analysis for its unmatched accuracy and zero-tolerance policy compatibility.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Falmouth, FL, provides an extensive detection period that is invaluable for screening. By offering a detection window of up to 90 days, employers gain a comprehensive view of a candidate's substance use history, aiding in informed decision-making and ensuring workplace safety standards are upheld.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Falmouth, FL, hair follicle testing is a preferred method due to its tamper-resistant nature. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
