Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Ferry Pass, Florida. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair testing, with centers nationwide equipped to conduct such tests. At least 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is necessary for most tests. Hair samples are analyzed for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options.

Hair follicle drug tests have become a more common method for drug testing in recent years. Various employers, courts, and substance abuse experts prefer hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are chosen by employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and individuals on probation. The main advantage of hair follicle tests is the extended detection period of up to 90 days. The collection method is observed, making cheating nearly impossible. Still, for use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as a robust means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The fibers of hair capture biomarkers, offering a prolonged record of alcohol and substance use. When hair is taken from near the scalp, it can reveal drug and alcohol use within a detection span of up to three months. Hair is easy to collect, resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

Cutting a 1.5-inch section of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which serves as the perfect quantity for testing and confirmation. For tests including EtG, additional screenings, or over 10 panels, 150mg is preferred. We advise using a jeweler's scale for specimen measurement. If scalp hair is absent, a comparably sized amount of body hair is acceptable. By head hair, we imply scalp hair solely, while body hair consists of other types like facial or underarm.

Process Overview

The quartet of primary laboratory phases for drug test processing encompasses Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample undergoes initial entry into a lab's database. This phase ensures the sample is properly sealed and transported, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any outstanding data records not included in an electronic chain of custody.

Screening acts as a preliminary evaluation for abuse substances and offers an economical way to negate drug use in most samples. Samples testing positive during Screening necessitate further Confirmation for judicial acceptance. Positively screened samples require additional verification.

For samples that register positive during Screening, more hair is separated from the original for Extraction. Drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations compared to methods like urine or saliva testing, positioning hair screening as one of the most challenging to execute.

Any positive results from Screening undergo Confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples flagged as positive are cleansed prior to confirmation if required. The entire process is inspected under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair accreditation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection span: Hair tests reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited duration.
  • Challenge to falsify: Manipulating a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing reliability.
  • Chronological data: Provides insights into drug usage patterns over an extended time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair testing tends to be pricier than other forms of drug analysis.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual growth rate can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Despite being called "hair follicle tests", the actual procedure evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle itself under the scalp

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
