Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Glendale, Florida. If your requirement includes a hair drug or alcohol evaluation, our expertise in hair assessments is unmatched, with centers nationwide prepared to conduct such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of crown or body hair is necessary. Hair assessments can target drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customizable options.

Recently, hair follicle testing has been increasingly adopted in drug assessments. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are favoring hair tests over traditional urine tests. Hair assessments appeal to firms with strict drug-use policies, legal systems, and probationary cases. Its main strength is the extended detection window, up to 90 days, with monitored collection and minimal susceptibility to tampering. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become a highly-effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. By capturing biomarkers within the strands, hair offers an extended historical record of substance use. With samples taken near the scalp, it is feasible to detect substances for a period of up to three months. The collection process is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, containing around 200 hair strands (similar to the diameter of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp, yields 100mg, which is the optimal quantity for analysis and verification. When testing for EtG, additional factors, or tests exceeding 10 panels, at least 150mg of hair is advisable. It's best to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be sourced, an equivalent amount of body hair is acceptable. When mentioning head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair forms (like facial or axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory drug test result process involves four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning marks the preliminary phase where a sample enters the lab's procedural system. Here, it's confirmed that the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, a random Laboratory Accessioning Number (LAN) is assigned, and any missing information not provided through electronic custody is supplemented.

Screening is a basic, swift assessment step for identifying drug misuse. Although it offers a cost-effective way to detect drugs across most samples, a positive screen necessitates a subsequent confirmation to hold in court. Samples deemed presumptively positive in Screening require a secondary verification.

For presumptive positives at the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. During Extraction, substances are separated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or saliva), thus making hair drug analysis the most complex method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive outcomes from Screening is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. Prior to confirmation, all presumptive positive samples undergo washing as required. The process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 certification.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely challenging, thus ensuring result precision.
  • Delivers historical insight: It reveals a pattern of substance use over a lengthier term, beyond recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot trace recent usage: Detection of drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Price: Hair drug testing tends to cost more than alternative methods.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair shade and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair shaft rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Glendale, FL

When evaluating drug test options in Glendale, hair follicle tests outperform traditional urine tests. They offer superior detection accuracy and reliability. While urine tests cover shorter periods, hair tests span months, providing a broader perspective on substance use. This extensive coverage makes hair tests indispensable for employers prioritizing substance use policy adherence.

In terms of tampering, hair tests are notably resistant, whereas urine tests face vulnerability. By choosing hair over urine, you affirm a commitment to precise and dependable results. Implement this choice for a more comprehensive understanding of employee health, particularly when zero tolerance is the goal.

Extended Detection Window

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
