Providing comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in Grant, Florida, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to. If a hair-based alcohol or drug evaluation is necessary, turn to Accredited Drug Testing with testing sites in all major cities nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is needed. Results can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized hair testing choices.

The trend in drug testing has increasingly leaned toward hair follicle methods over the years. Employers, legal systems, and addiction specialists often favor this over standard urine tests. Hair follicle examinations are invaluable for firms with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and supervised individuals. One key advantage is its long detection span, reaching up to 90 days, collected under observation, making evasion nearly impossible. However, for recent drug activity within 5 days, urine tests maintain higher accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a lengthy history of alcohol and other substances by preserving biomarkers within the hair fibers. When gathered near the scalp, hair offers a detection span of up to about 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

Collecting a 1.5-inch section of around 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields about 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample size for testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and or tests beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If hair from the scalp is not available, a similar amount of body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair refers to all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four primary phases in the laboratory handling of a drug test, which include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial entry of a sample into a lab’s system. This stage involves confirming that samples were properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry not automated by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Although Screening provides a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive result must be confirmed to be valid in legal contexts. Presumptive positives from Screening do need a follow-up confirmation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive in the Screening phase, more hair is taken from the initial collection for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), which is why hair drug testing remains the most challenging method to carry out.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples, as needed, undergo washing before confirmation. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated in line with the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug exams can identify drug use for up to 90 days, while urine tests have a shorter time frame.
  • Difficulty in deception: It's quite difficult to deceive a hair drug examination, thus enhancing result reliability.
  • Offers historical insight: It can illustrate a sequence of drug usage over time, not just recent activity.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair only after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are usually pricier than other drug test alternatives.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests," the test focuses on analyzing the hair strand rather than the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Grant, FL, stands out in comparison to traditional urine tests due to its superior detection accuracy. Unlike urine tests, which may only reveal recent drug use, hair testing offers a window into a longer history of substance intake. This makes it a preferred choice for those aiming for a more comprehensive examination.

The reliability of hair testing surpasses that of urine testing. While urine samples can be tampered with, hair samples provide a more constant and uncontaminated source of data, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the drug testing process.

Extended Detection Window

One of the significant advantages of hair follicle testing available in Grant, FL, is its extended detection window. Unlike other testing methods, hair testing can detect drug use up to 90 days prior. This longer period offers employers a deeper insight into an individual's substance history, acting as a reliable indicator for long-term drug use.

This extended detection capability furnishes a comprehensive view of an individual’s lifestyle choices regarding substance use. Whether it's for pre-employment screenings or ongoing checks, this extensive window aids in making informed decisions regarding personnel.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing sets it apart from other methods in Grant, FL. The ability to significantly reduce sample adulteration makes hair tests reliable and credible. The sample is collected in a controlled, supervised manner, minimizing the chances of manipulation, thus ensuring trustworthy results.

Using hair follicles for drug tests ensures a transparent and indisputable outcome. This method leaves little room for doubt, providing employers and authorities peace of mind regarding the authenticity of the test results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
