Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug exams in Indrio, Florida. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol test, our centers are equipped nationwide to conduct such analyses. Typically, you'll require 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body for testing, with options to screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized tests.

Recently, the implementation of drug tests often includes hair follicle assessment. Many employers, judiciary bodies, and substance professionals are opting for hair tests over urine. Hair tests appeal to zero-tolerance employers, judicial systems, and probation cases due to their extended drug detection capabilities, generally covering up to 90 days. While hair testing is nearly foolproof, urine tests remain best for detecting recent drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within its growing strands. When samples are sourced near the scalp, they offer a detection timeframe of up to about 3 months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches (about the size of a #2 pencil) taken nearest the scalp, comprising approximately 200 strands, amounts to 100mg of hair, which is perfect for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or panels beyond 10, 150mg of the specimen is advisable. We advise weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, a comparable amount of body hair can be taken. When we say head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other forms like facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

There are four key stages in the lab analysis of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary phase where a sample is entered into the laboratory system. This step verifies the sample's proper sealing and shipping, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any data entry not automated by a digital chain of custody system.

Screening offers a swift preliminary check for substance abuse. Although Screening serves as a budget-friendly technique to rule out drug usage for most samples, a positive screen demands confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples showing presumptive positives in Screening require another verification step.

Samples that appear presumptively positive during Screening undergo further analysis where more hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at concentrations less than those in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which contributes to hair drug screening's complexity.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation if needed. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation follows reviews under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standard accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter timeframe.
  • Hard to tamper: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, resulting in more precise results.
  • Presents historical data: It can reveal a drug use pattern over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are often costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variances: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Referred to frequently as "hair follicle tests", the examination analyzes the hair strand itself, excluding the hair follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing Excels Over Urine Testing: In Indrio, FL, the clear advantage of hair follicle tests lies in their superior detection accuracy. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair analysis identifies drug use over a more extended timeline, offering a reliable account of substance use patterns.

The intricacies of hair testing suppress chances of evasion, unlike more conventional urine tests that might be susceptible to tampering.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window: Hair testing provides an extensive drug detection range, up to 90 days, in Indrio, FL. It grants employers a wider perspective on an individual's past substance usage, aiding in responsible hiring and monitoring practices.

This lengthy detection period allows for a true reflection of behavioral patterns, supporting fair assessment in employment screenings.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
