Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Jamieson, Florida. If a drug or alcohol hair test is required, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with facilities available nationwide to conduct these tests. Typically requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body, hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or may be tailored for other specific analyses.

Recently, the preference for hair follicle drug testing has grown. It's increasingly mandated by employers, courts, and substance abuse experts as an alternative to urine analysis. Hair tests benefit employers with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and those on probation by offering a more extensive detection window of drug use, up to 90 days, via an observed collection that's hard to manipulate. Despite this, urine tests remain the most precise for drug usage detection within a 5-day timeframe.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for detecting substance and alcohol use. Hair captures a long-term record of drugs and alcohol by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When sampled near the scalp, hair offers a detection period of roughly up to three months for drugs and alcohol. Collection is straightforward, it's relatively tamper-resistant, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample size for screenings and confirmations. For EtG, add-ons, or tests beyond 10 panels, a sample size of 150mg is suggested. It is advisable to weigh the sample using a jeweler's scale. In scenarios where scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair might be collected. Our reference to head hair exclusively pertains to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all other hair types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result primarily comprises four stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the initial incorporation of a sample into the laboratory system. This phase ensures the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any outstanding data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is the preliminary assessment for substance abuse indications. Screening provides a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug usage for most samples; however, to be regarded as admissible in court, a positive screening requires confirmation. Samples that are presumed positive during Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

If a specimen is assumed positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepped for Extraction. During this step, drugs are isolated from the hair at notably lower concentrations than those in other techniques (such as urine or oral fluids), making hair drug screening highly challenging to execute.

The Confirmation of any positive results from Screening is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before being confirmed if necessary. Every stage from Accessioning to Confirmation in the laboratory process is thoroughly evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug usage extending to 90 days, compared to urine tests that offer a much shorter detection period.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating on a hair drug test presents significant challenges, thereby enhancing test accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: They reflect drug usage patterns over time, instead of solely focusing on recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent intake: Drug detection in hair takes roughly 5-7 days post-usage.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly called "hair follicle tests," the examination targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Jamieson, FL, hair follicle testing is proving superior to traditional urine testing. Detection accuracy is markedly enhanced, with the ability to identify a broader spectrum of drugs over a longer period. Unlike urine tests, which are easier to evade, hair tests provide a robust and comprehensive overview of substance use history.

Hair tests are fast becoming the gold standard due to their high reliability. They present a more comprehensive and less invasive method, reducing the possibility of tampering and enhancing the integrity of the results. Ultimately, employers and officials in Jamieson are turning to hair testing for its unmatched efficacy.

Extended Detection Window

In Jamieson, FL, hair follicle testing provides an extended detection window, capturing drug use up to 90 days prior. This far-reaching capability offers employers a detailed view of an individual's substance use, vastly improving the screening process. Such methods equip employers with vital information that goes beyond the limited reach of urine tests.

The long detection period inherent to hair testing supports a thorough evaluation of substance use patterns, offering insights into past behavior. This information is critical, especially in contexts requiring stringent drug use policies. In this way, hair follicle testing enhances the comprehensive assessment of candidates or employees.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Jamieson, FL significantly mitigates sample tampering, offering an almost foolproof drug testing process. Unlike more traditional methods where sample manipulation is a concern, hair tests provide unquestionable and reliable results due to their scientific robust nature and observed collection protocols.

With hair testing, the integrity of the sample is preserved, drastically reducing the risk of adulteration. This ensures that the test outcomes remain undisputed, providing peace of mind for employers and judicial entities seeking confirmation of substance intake without the worry of compromised samples.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
