Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Palm Beach, Florida. If you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol examination, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair analyses, with facilities available nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other bespoke assays.
In recent times, drug testing methods have frequently incorporated the hair follicle drug test. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse specialists now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Corporations with zero-tolerance drug policies, legal systems, and individuals on probation often use hair follicle tests. The main advantage is its extended detection window for drug use, up to 90 days, with a supervised collection process, making it nearly foolproof. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair acts as a long-term record of substance use, capturing biomarkers in its fibers as it grows. When taken near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug usage for up to three months. It is easy to collect, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to ship.
A 1.5-inch segment of about 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for precise measurement. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable amount of body hair may be used. We refer to scalp hair exclusively when mentioning head hair, while body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test result is composed of four core steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning consists of introducing a sample into the lab's system. This step includes checking that the sample was correctly sealed and transported, assigning a Lab Accessioning Number (LAN) at random, and completing any necessary data entry that an electronic chain of custody system does not cover.
Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although this step is cost-effective for excluding drug use in most samples, any positive results require confirmation to be valid in court. Presumptive positive findings from Screening require additional confirmation.
Should a sample indicate a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are separated from hair at much lower concentrations than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a challenging process to carry out.
Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive undergo a wash before confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under the College of American Pathologists' Hair designation as well as ISO / IEC 17025 standards.
Advantages of hair drug testing:
Limitations:
Note: Though often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

The manuscripts in this section presented novel approaches, such as multianalyte methods and on-line preparation which can enable rapid analysis and improve thorough forensic investigations.
Biomarkers and Pharmacokinetics: The identification and validation of reliable biomarkers and pharmacokinetic studies are fundamental aspects of drug testing and analysis. The impact of hair treatments on the oxidation/decomposition of drugs in hair was also explored, as the long-term fate of drugs incorporated in the keratin matrix. Furthermore, the SoHT meeting in Verona featured research on the identification and quantification of alcohol abuse biomarkers, their stability, and their correlation with exposure and other biomarkers.
Forensic Applications and Interpretation: One of the vital objectives of hair testing is its application in forensic investigations and legal proceedings. The SoHT meeting in Verona emphasized the significance of rigorous interpretation of analytical results and the need for standardized protocols. Manuscripts in this section present advancements in forensic toxicology, and have explored the challenges posed by emerging designer drugs and strategies to combat their proliferation. The pitfalls encountered when the exogenous/endogenous nature of a substance is questioned were presented and discussed. The special issue presents also manuscripts that delve into the ethical implications of drug testing in drug facilitated sexual assaults.
Clinical Applications of hair testing are witnessed by the insight on environmental tobacco smoke exposure, assessed by hair analysis in a population of students and the study of in utero-exposure to drugs of abuse through neonatal hair analysis. Exposure to drugs was also important in cases of child abuse/neglect, when the clinical purpose of hair testing merge with its forensic applications.
The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed, and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
