Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing in Parrish, Florida. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair testing, with facilities in cities across the United States ready to conduct a hair test. You generally need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or can use body hair. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other tailored testing options.
In recent years, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become the preferred method for conducting drug tests. It's now a requirement for many employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals instead of the typical urine test. Employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probation services commonly use hair follicle tests. The main advantage of this test is its ability to detect drug use for up to 90 days, collected in an observed manner, making it nearly impossible to tamper with. However, for drug use detection within the past 5 days, the urine test remains the most dependable.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
Hair analysis has become recognized as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of its growth. When collected near the scalp, hair offers up to roughly a 90-day detection window for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and conveniently transportable.
A 1.5-inch hair sample comprised of about 200 strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or more comprehensive testing beyond 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advisable. We suggest weighing the hair on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent volume of body hair can be used. When referring to head hair, it strictly means scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test result primarily involves four steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning entails the initial entry of a sample into the laboratory’s system. This step involves ensuring the sample is suitably sealed and shipped, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and entering any supplementary data not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.
Screening acts as a preliminary assessment for substances of abuse. Although cost-efficient for excluding drug use in most samples, a positive screening result must be verified for legal acceptance. Any samples that yield a presumptive positive in Screening warrant further confirmation.
If a sample shows a presumptive positive during the Screening stage, additional hair is obtained from the original specimen for the Extraction process. During Extraction, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other testing methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is considered more challenging.
Positive results from Screening undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples testing presumptively positive are washed before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

The joint meeting of the Society of Hair Testing (SoHT) and the Italian Group of Forensic Toxicologists (GTFI) was organized in Verona, June 8–10, 2022, and hosted by the Legal Medicine team of the Verona University Hospital, directed by Franco Tagliaro together with Federica Bortolotti and Rossella Gottardo.
It served as a prominent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, facilitating groundbreaking advancements in hair testing and analysis. In this special issue of Drug Testing and Analysis, we aim to showcase the remarkable manuscripts presented at this significant event, shedding light on the latest research and highlighting the future directions in this field.
Novel Analytical Techniques: The Verona meeting witnessed the unveiling of cutting-edge analytical techniques, offering enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and accuracy for drug testing. Remarkable advancements in sample preparation, detection, and identification of drug compounds have been presented. The manuscripts in this section presented novel approaches, such as multianalyte methods and on-line preparation which can enable rapid analysis and improve thorough forensic investigations.
Biomarkers and Pharmacokinetics: The identification and validation of reliable biomarkers and pharmacokinetic studies are fundamental aspects of drug testing and analysis. The impact of hair treatments on the oxidation/decomposition of drugs in hair was also explored, as the long-term fate of drugs incorporated in the keratin matrix. Furthermore, the SoHT meeting in Verona featured research on the identification and quantification of alcohol abuse biomarkers, their stability, and their correlation with exposure and other biomarkers.
Forensic Applications and Interpretation: One of the vital objectives of hair testing is its application in forensic investigations and legal proceedings. The SoHT meeting in Verona emphasized the significance of rigorous interpretation of analytical results and the need for standardized protocols. Manuscripts in this section present advancements in forensic toxicology, and have explored the challenges posed by emerging designer drugs and strategies to combat their proliferation. The pitfalls encountered when the exogenous/endogenous nature of a substance is questioned were presented and discussed. The special issue presents also manuscripts that delve into the ethical implications of drug testing in drug facilitated sexual assaults.
Clinical Applications of hair testing are witnessed by the insight on environmental tobacco smoke exposure, assessed by hair analysis in a population of students and the study of in utero-exposure to drugs of abuse through neonatal hair analysis. Exposure to drugs was also important in cases of child abuse/neglect, when the clinical purpose of hair testing merge with its forensic applications.
The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed, and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
