Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Patrick AFB, Florida. Our hair testing expertise spans across various cities nationwide, ensuring you access to a quality hair or alcohol test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices for a test. Analyze hair for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options.

Hair follicle tests have grown in prominence as a drug testing method; they surpass standard urine tests in usage. Employers, courts, and substance abuse experts often prefer hair tests. With a detection window up to 90 days, observed collection, and difficult-to-tamper-with sampling, hair tests aid zero-tolerance workplaces, courts, and probationers. Yet, urine tests prove more accurate for recent drug usage within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as a highly effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within its growing fibers. When sampled near the scalp, hair offers a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and simple to transport.

A segment of hair measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of around 200 strands similar in thickness to a #2 pencil, yields 100mg of hair, an ideal quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or more than 10-panel tests, 150mg of specimen is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair is suitable. Head hair specifically refers to the scalp; in contrast, body hair encompasses all other types, such as facial and axillary.

Process Overview

The procedure for processing a drug test result in the laboratory involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial incorporation of a sample into the lab's system, ensuring the sample is sealed and shipped correctly, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any data entries not handled by the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective method for excluding drug use in most samples, a positive screen needs confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples testing presumptive positive in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation process.

In instances where a sample tests presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary specimen and prepped for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower levels than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), which is why conducting hair drug screenings is notably challenging.

Positive Screening results are verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. Presumptive positive specimens undergo a cleansing process prior to confirmation as necessary. The entire lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, undergoes scrutiny through the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and complies with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeline: Hair testing identifies drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair test is extremely challenging, thus ensuring greater accuracy in results.
  • Reflects historical usage: It illustrates a timeline of drug consumption over time, rather than just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Minimal recent detection: Drugs become traceable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair testing generally costs more than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" is misleading; only the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp, is analyzed.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Patrick AFB, FL, hair follicle testing is recognized as the superior choice over urine testing. Hair tests surpass traditional urine tests by offering a longer detection window and higher accuracy rates. While urine detects recent drug use, hair testing reveals patterns over an extended period. This reliability makes hair tests invaluable in ensuring a drug-free environment, unparalleled by the limitations of urine screening.

When comparing methods, hair tests boast a nearly tamper-proof process and comprehensive drug-use history. Unlike urine tests, which often require additional scrutiny, hair testing provides clear evidence of any substance use within the past three months. Employers thus have a more complete record, facilitating better compliance and safety standards in Patrick AFB, FL.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection period available through hair follicle tests in Patrick AFB, FL provides unmatched insight into an individual's drug use history. Encompassing up to 90 days, the window offers employers a broad view of substance use, which urine tests can't match. This depth of information helps in assessing the long-term patterns of substance engagement among applicants and employees alike.

Employers benefit significantly from the expansive insight provided by hair follicle tests. With drug history detected over several months, decisions become more informed and grounded in factual historical data. This accounts for more comprehensive organizational policies and ensures that those engaging in drug activities are monitored effectively over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing reduces tampering risks significantly in Patrick AFB, FL. Its robustness against adulteration makes it a reliable drug testing method, minimizing false results which might compromise veracity. Because samples are collected under observation and due to the unique properties of hair, it's nearly impossible to alter test outcomes, unlike vulnerable urine samples.

This tamper-resistant attribute assures stakeholders of the test's authenticity, important when employing zero-tolerance policies. Dissuasion against sample tampering boosts confidence among participants and testing facilities, ensuring unabated access to accurate drug use history. Secure and dependable, hair tests stand out in Patrick AFB for their reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
