Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Paxton, Florida. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in these services and operates testing centers across the nation that can conduct hair tests. Usually, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other tailored testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methodologies have increasingly included hair follicle drug tests. A growing number of employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse professionals now require hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Utilized by employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation, hair follicle drug tests offer a significant advantage with a longer detection period, usually up to 90 days, are collected under observation, and are extremely difficult to tamper with. For substance detection in the last 5 days, however, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective tool for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-lasting record of alcohol and other substances by integrating biomarkers within the strands as they grow. Hair collected close to the scalp can offer a detection window of up to about 3 months for alcohol and other substances. Collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and conveniently shipped.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil’s diameter) near the scalp yields 100mg, the perfect amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional screenings, and/or tests surpassing 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn't present, an equivalent amount of body hair can be gathered. "Head hair" denotes scalp hair specifically. "Body hair" refers to all other hair types (like facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process in laboratories for handling a drug test result is divided into four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of integrating a sample into a laboratory’s system. This involves verifying that the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, allocating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and adding any further information not filled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid test for substance abuse. Despite Screening being a cost-effective means to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive Screening result necessitates confirmation for court acceptance. Presumed positive samples in Screening do require subsequent confirmation.

If a specimen is tentatively positive in Screening, more hair is taken from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. Here, substances are extracted from hair in much smaller amounts compared to other techniques (like urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Confirmation of any positive Screening is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All suspected positive samples are cleansed prior to Confirmation as needed. The complete laboratory routine from Accessioning to Confirmation is inspected under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, compared to the shorter period for urine tests.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely tough, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Provides usage patterns: It shows a trajectory of drug use over time, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent consumption: Drugs become detectable in hair only after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is typically pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Though often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand itself rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Paxton, FL, hair follicle testing has clear advantages over traditional urine tests. The comprehensive detection capabilities of hair tests outshine urine tests significantly. Benefits include:

  • Longer Detection: Hair tests capture a more extended history of use.
  • Accuracy: They offer superior accuracy, diminishing the risk of misleading results.
For these reasons, hair tests emerge as an optimal choice for stakeholders needing reliable insights.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle drug testing in Paxton, FL offers an unparalleled detection window. Unlike traditional methods, which may capture substance use over mere days, hair testing provides a retrospective lens on an individual's drug history, covering up to 90 days. Employers benefit immensely: gaining a comprehensive understanding of applicant or employee substance attitudes.

This extended window doesn't just serve employers; it offers peace of mind, reflecting consistent sobriety or alerting to potential issues.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The integrity of hair follicle tests in Paxton, FL is unrivaled in reducing sample tampering risks. Why Hair Tests Stand Out:

  • Resistance to Adulteration: Hair samples can't be altered easily, ensuring authenticity in results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
