Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Pretty Bayou, Florida. If you require a hair drug or alcohol screening, we specialize in such tests and offer centers across all cities Nationwide for the procedure. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body are needed. Hair analyses can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Recently, drug testing increasingly includes hair follicle methods. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often favor hair tests over standard urine analyses. Hair tests are employed by employers with strict anti-drug policies, judicial systems, and those on probation. A key advantage is its extended detection period, lasting up to 90 days, collected under observation, making it almost tamper-proof. Yet, for drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most reliable.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a potent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extensive timeline of alcohol and drug intake by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a 3-month detection span for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to send.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprised of about 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) near the scalp amounts to 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation procedures. For EtG add-ons and/or panels exceeding 10, a sample of 150mg is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for precise weighing. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent amount of body hair is permitted. In this context, head hair refers specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses other types like facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for processing a drug test result comprises four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the preliminary handling of a sample within a laboratory’s framework. This process ensures that the sample is properly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and includes any necessary data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs an initial drug abuse check. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug use among most samples, a positive outcome demands further verification to hold up in legal contexts. Any samples with presumptive positivity in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

If a sample shows presumptive positivity during Screening, extra hair is taken from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other testing methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis one of the most challenging procedures.

Confirmation of a positive Screen uses GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before Confirmation as required. Every part of the laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, contrasting the shorter timeframe of urine tests.
  • Difficulty to manipulate: Hair drug tests are hard to falsify, enhancing result reliability.
  • Offers historical insights: It can reveal a drug use pattern across time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: It typically takes about 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be more costly than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Referred to as "hair follicle tests", this method examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair testing surpass urine testing in Pretty Bayou, FL? It's simple: superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike traditional urine tests, which capture recent drug use, hair tests identify usage over a more extended period, up to 90 days. This characteristic alone provides employers with indispensable insight into an employee's or candidate's history, beyond a narrow window.

Hair follicle testing eliminates uncertainties associated with sample tampering or diluted results, common pitfalls in urine tests. This advantage assures that results reflect true substance use, not influenced by temporary abstinence or adulterated samples. Consequently, employers gain comprehensive insight into an individual's past, making informed decisions about recruitment or retention.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window in Pretty Bayou, FL, keeping you informed over more extended periods. This method detects drug use up to 90 days prior, offering a thorough recount of an individual's drug history. Such comprehensive insight surpasses conventional methods, reflecting sustained substance use patterns instead of basing conclusions on recent results.

Employers monitoring applicant or employee substance use can leverage this window to ensure safety and compliance. The hair follicle method's unique ability lies within its lasting detection period, which translates to profound knowledge of one's history. As a result, it fosters a space where informed choices rule, enhancing trust and safety in work environments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

When it comes to reduced risks of sample adulteration, hair follicle tests in Pretty Bayou, FL, stand tall. Tamper-resistant testing means hair samples resist deceit, ensuring true results reflect actual substance use. Inserting an additional layer of security helps reassure employers and individuals that their analyses are both valid and authentic.

The secured method minimizes interference, building trust in the testing outcome. Unlike urine tests, hair samples don't fall prey to substances tampering or attempting to alter results. This reliability guarantees that conclusions drawn are based on factual data—a crucial element for decision-making processes involving employment or litigation where precision is paramount.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
