In Roosevelt Gardens, Florida, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. If you seek a hair drug or alcohol test, we excel in hair testing, having centers nationwide that can perform such tests. Usually, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body are needed. Our hair tests analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, and personalized options.

The trend in drug testing is increasingly favoring hair follicle tests. Many employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and those on probation are prime users. Hair tests offer a longer detection window, typically up to 90 days, and are collected under supervision, making them hard to tamper with. For recent drug use up to 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now considered a significant method for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. Hair serves as a repository for a lengthy history of substances by holding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. If gathered near the scalp, hair can offer up to an approximate three-month detection period for drugs and alcohol. Hair collection is straightforward, harder to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample consisting of 1.5 inches and roughly 200 strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's girth) closest to the scalp yields 100mg—the perfect portion for both screening and validation. For tests like EtG, add-ons, or those exceeding 10 panels, a recommendation is to hold 150mg of the sample. It's advised to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, a similar measure of body hair is an acceptable alternative. When mentioning head hair, it solely denotes scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The main stages in laboratory evaluation of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary treatment of a sample into a lab’s framework. This process ensures the sample’s proper sealing and transport, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishes any other required data entry absent from a digital chain of custody platform.

Screening initiates an initial rapid assessment for illicit substance usage. While being an economical method to dismiss drug consumption for most samples, an affirmative screen necessitates corroboration for court acceptance. Any samples assumed positive in Screening demand a subsequent confirmation.

Should a sample show a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, further hair is extracted from the initial specimen and set for Extraction. Here, drugs are taken out from hair at noticeably lower levels than other procedures (e.g., urine or oral fluids), marking hair drug examination as the most challenging procedure.

All positive screening outcomes are corroborated through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All assumed positive specimens are cleansed before confirmation, as necessary. The whole lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use spanning 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a fleeting detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Manipulating a hair drug test is notably hard, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Shows historical patterns: It offers a timeline of drug consumption over time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Unavailable for recent consumption: It usually requires 5-7 days for drugs to be noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations generally incur higher costs than other methodologies.
  • Result divergences: Factors like hair hue and individual growth discrepancies can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly labeled as "hair follicle tests," this evaluation appraises the hair strand, excluding the follicle beneath the scalp.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
