Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair strand drug testing in Schall Circle, Florida. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our team is a leader in hair testing, with facilities in every city across the nation equipped to conduct a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required from the scalp or body for testing. This method is suitable for detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific hair test requirements.

Recently, the prevalence of hair follicle testing in drug assessments has increased. More employers, judicial systems, and addiction counselors demand hair drug tests over the conventional urine tests. These tests are favored by zero-tolerance employers, legal entities, and probationers due to their extended drug detection period, which can reach up to 90 days. They are performed under observation and are nearly impossible to manipulate. However, urine tests remain the most precise method for recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Through the capture of biomarkers within the growing hair's fibers, hair offers a prolonged record of alcohol and drug use. When collected near the scalp, hair can provide a detection period spanning up to around three months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, comprising roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp, will yield 100mg of hair—ideal for testing and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or screenings exceeding a 10-panel test, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable quantity of body hair can be utilized. By head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other hair categories (such as facial and axillary).

Process Overview

The primary steps in laboratory drug testing are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the preliminary procedure of incorporating a sample into a lab's system. This entails ensuring the sample was appropriately sealed and shipped, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) randomly, and completing any supplementary data entry that's not covered by an electronic chain of custody framework.

Screening is a preliminary rapid evaluation for illicit drugs. While Screening is cost-efficient in determining the absence of drugs in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation to be permissible in legal settings. Samples with presumptive positive results in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is retracted from the original specimen for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at lower concentrations than in other approaches (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair screening is the most complex method to execute.

Confirmation for positive Screening outcomes is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results undergo a necessary wash before confirmation. The end-to-end laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is conducted under the scrutiny of both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, while urine tests offer a shorter interval.
  • Challenging to deceive: Deceiving a hair drug test is challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Insights into past usage: It gives insight into drug usage patterns over a duration, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unable to identify recent consumption: Detectability of drugs in hair takes approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests incur higher costs compared to other testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though termed as "hair follicle tests", the actual analysis involves the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Schall Circle, FL, hair follicle testing offers an exceptional advantage over urine testing. Why Choose Hair Follicle Testing? The accuracy and reliability in detecting substance use far exceed those of traditional methods. Hair tests provide a comprehensive history up to 90 days, which contrasts sharply with urine tests that only detect recent use.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
