In Seville, Florida, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. If you need a test for drugs or alcohol, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with centers nationwide ready to conduct the test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is required. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer personalized testing options.

Recently, drug testing methods increasingly favor hair follicle drug tests. These are preferred by employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals over the standard urine test. Employers with strict policies, courts, and probation individuals benefit from hair drug tests. The main advantage is a prolonged detection window of up to 90 days, collected under observation, making it hard to cheat, though for recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of substance use by capturing biomarkers within its fibers during growth. When gathered near the scalp, hair may reveal substance use for up to about a 90-day span. It is easy to gather, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields about 100mg, an optimal amount for screening and verification purposes. For EtG, add-ons, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample is recommended. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent volume of body hair may be obtained. "Head hair" pertains exclusively to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other types (like facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The essential stages in processing a drug test result in a lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase where a sample is entered into the laboratory’s system. This step ensures the sample was properly sealed and delivered, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary evaluation for drug presence. While Screening is a cost-efficient means to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Any presumptive positive results in Screening necessitate follow-up verification.

When a sample is presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at considerably lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing a challenging process.

Confirmatory testing for any positive Screening outcomes is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing when needed before confirmation. The entire laboratory workflow, from Accessioning to Confirmation, remains under scrutiny per both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection span: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for as long as 90 days, while urine tests offer shorter windows.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceptionally challenging, leading to more precise outcomes.
  • Chronological data: It reveals a sequence of drug consumption over time, rather than just current use.

Limitations:

  • Delayed detection: Drugs typically need 5-7 days to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and individual growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although commonly dubbed "hair follicle tests," the examination targets the hair strand and not the follicles beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Surpasses Urine Testing in Seville, FL is evident through its superior advantages. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair tests offer a broader detection window, capturing substance use history far longer. Moreover, the reliability of hair testing diminishes the chances of false negatives, providing employers with greater assurance.
The longer detection window and higher accuracy make hair testing the preferred choice in Seville, FL.

This method outshines urine testing by ensuring a more detailed overview of an individual's substance habits. The consistency and dependability of results from hair testing enforce its adoption over urine tests, reflecting its unparalleled status in monitoring drug use.

Extended Detection Window

In Seville, FL, hair follicle testing boasts an extended detection window, capable of revealing drug use for as long as 90 days. This extensive period allows employers to gain a thorough overview of an individual's substance history, crucial for making informed decisions.
The prolonged period covered by hair follicle testing surpasses other methods, offering significant insight into past drug use.

This extensive detection window provides a comprehensive understanding of an applicant's or employee's behavior over months, thus enabling accurate assessments. Employers in Seville benefit from this in-depth view, aligning employee selection or retention with organizational standards and safety protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
