Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in St. George, Florida. If a hair drug or alcohol analysis is required, Accredited Drug Testing is adept in hair examinations, with facilities in all cities Nationwide ready to conduct a hair evaluation. A length of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head or body is typically necessary. Hair assessments can evaluate drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer tailored hair testing solutions.

Over the years, hair follicle drug evaluations have gained traction. Numerous employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse counselors now favor hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Employers adhering to zero-tolerance drug policies, along with courts and individuals under probation, commonly employ these tests. A significant advantage of hair follicle drug evaluations is the prolonged detection window, usually up to 90 days, captured through a monitored collection process, making it exceedingly challenging to deceive. However, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, the urine test remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis emerges as an efficient resource for monitoring drug and alcohol intake. By embedding biomarkers within the fibers of developing hair strands, hair offers an extensive retrospective view of alcohol and other drugs. When procured near the scalp, hair affords a detection timeframe of up to around 90 days for alcohol and other substances. It is easy to gather, difficult to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section comprising roughly 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional evaluations, and/or analyses beyond 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advocated. The specimen should be weighed using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a comparable amount of body hair may be used. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for deriving a drug test result encompasses four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the initial sample handling within the laboratory’s framework. This consists of confirming that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data entry not included in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial rapid examination for substances of abuse. While Screening offers a cost-efficient means to eliminate drug use for the majority of samples, a positive outcome requires confirmation to be valid in legal contexts. Samples indicating likely positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If Screening suggests a positive result, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. This phase involves extracting substances from hair at significantly lower concentrations than those achieved by other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), underscoring the complexity of hair drug screening.

Any positive results from Screening undergo Confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples suggesting positive are cleansed before confirmation as needed. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation adheres to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use for a duration of up to 90 days, contrasting with the narrower timeframe of urine tests.
  • Challenging to falsify: Hair drug assessments are difficult to manipulate, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Supplies historical insight: It offers a record of drug usage over an interval, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Detectability in hair requires approximately 5-7 days post-drug intake.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments tend to be pricier than alternative drug screening techniques.
  • Results variability: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth may influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the evaluation pertains to the hair strand and excludes the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing testing methods, hair follicle evaluations are superior to urine tests in St. George, FL. The benefits of hair testing include a higher detection accuracy and better reliability. Hair tests trace drugs for up to 90 days, providing a more thorough history of substance use.

Urine tests, while traditional, lack the long-term detection capabilities of hair evaluations. This makes hair follicle tests favorable in settings prioritizing comprehensive assessment of drug use.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing is remarkable for its extended detection window in St. George, FL. It can identify drug use history spanning up to 90 days, offering employers a detailed view of substance usage patterns.

This long detection period in hair testing far outstrips that of other methods, proving its efficacy in evaluating an individual's past substance use over an extended duration.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle test is a tamper-resistant methodology in St. George, FL. Reducing the risk of sample adulteration significantly, it provides results that are both trustworthy and conclusive. This test's robust nature means it's nearly impossible to falsify.

Employers and organizations benefit from undeniable reliability when using hair evaluations, where sample integrity is meticulously maintained.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
