Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Sunniland, Florida. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise is in hair testing, with facilities in every city Nationwide capable of conducting such tests. Typically, you should have between 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head, though body hair can also be used. Hair tests detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for other purposes.

Recently, the trend in drug testing methods has increasingly leaned towards hair follicle tests. Many employers, the judicial system, and addiction treatment experts prefer hair drug testing over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial authorities, and those on probation utilize hair tests. This method's main advantage is detecting drugs over a lengthy period, about 90 days, with supervision during sample collection, making it almost impervious to tampering. Yet, for detection within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged timeline of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of hair as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal a substance use history of up to three months. The collection of hair samples is straightforward; it's relatively tamper-proof and convenient for transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of around 200 strands (comparable to the diameter of a #2 pencil) obtained closest to the scalp, produces about 100mg, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation procedures. For EtG tests or assessments exceeding 10 drug panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. In the event scalp hair is not available, an equivalent volume of body hair can be taken. ‘Head hair’ refers solely to scalp hair, whereas ‘body hair’ includes all other categories, such as facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample is initially integrated into a laboratory’s system. This step ensures the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concludes any supplemental data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening performs a preliminary scan for illicit substance usage. This stage is an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, however, a positive screen must be validated to be valid in legal contexts. All samples with a presumptive positive result in Screening require confirmatory testing.

If a sample is flagged as presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample for the Extraction process. In Extraction, compounds are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other types of tests (e.g., urine or saliva), underscoring hair drug testing as a challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of a positive screening outcome employs techniques such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as required. Every step from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized per the CAP (College of American Pathologists) guidelines and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection durations.
  • Resistance to cheating: Hair drug tests are hard to deceive, enhancing accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It provides an indicative timeline of drug consumption over an extended period, rather than recent usage only.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Drugs typically take around 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are usually costlier than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair pigmentation and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly called "hair follicle tests", the assessment examines the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Sunniland, FL, hair follicle testing is increasingly preferred over urine tests due to its superior detection capabilities. One major advantage is its ability to unveil substance use over an extended period, unlike urine tests that only capture recent use. Hair samples are less prone to adulteration, making them highly reliable.

Employers in Sunniland are recognizing the benefits of hair testing, especially for implementing zero-tolerance policies. This method not only enhances detection accuracy but also deters employees from engaging in drug use, thus fostering a safer work environment.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Sunniland, FL offers a unique advantage with its extended detection window, revealing substance use over approximately 90 days. This longer timeframe provides employers and authorities a broader perspective on an individual's drug history, assisting in more informed decision-making.

With such a comprehensive detection period, hair follicle tests surpass other testing methods, especially when ensuring workplace safety and compliance. This capability is particularly beneficial for companies aiming to maintain drug-free policies and identify patterns of substance misuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
