In Villas, Florida, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening. Our expertise in hair testing ensures top-notch service across numerous nationwide centers ready to conduct hair or alcohol analyses. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required, and samples from the scalp or body are acceptable. Our services cater to testing for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored hair analysis options.

Hair follicle drug testing has become a more common solution in recent years. Employers, courts, and professionals in Substance Abuse prevention prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests. This method is favored by those with strict drug-free policies, courts, and individuals on probation. Hair tests are valued for their extended detection period of up to 90 days, offering an observed and tamper-proof collection process. Despite the reliability of hair tests, urine tests are more precise for recent use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is viewed as a strong method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair can show a long-term picture of alcohol and drug consumption since it holds biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair. When hair is collected near the scalp, it can offer a detection window of nearly 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, relatively hard to adulterate, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample consisting of around 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample size for evaluation and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weight of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler's scale for measuring the sample. If scalp hair is not available, the collection of an equivalent amount of body hair is permissible. When mentioning head hair, we exclusively mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial or axillary hairs).

Process Overview

The key steps in laboratory processing for a drug test outcome entail Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample undergoes initial processing into a lab's system. This step includes confirming that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not specified by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening includes a quick initial test for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical option to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive outcome must be confirmed for it to be used in court. Samples that test presumptively positive during Screening require additional confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are drawn from the hair at considerably lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing a challenging methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are washed prior to confirmation if necessary. Each step from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined following the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and meets ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for a period of up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter timeframe.
  • Cheating prevention: It is significantly challenging to cheat a hair drug test, thus ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides a timeline of drug usage spanning a considerable period and not merely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Does not detect recent use: About 5-7 days are required for drugs to appear in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Despite being commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over urine in Villas, FL? Hair testing offers a superior detection capability and reliability. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair analyses efficiently identify drug traces within a longer window, providing a clearer view of substance use history. Their increased accuracy makes them ideal for employers and authorities needing reliable verification methods.

The benefits of hair testing over more conventional urine screenings lie primarily in its extensive detection period. With little room for tampering, it provides a clearer insight into an individual's habits. Hair follicle testing surpasses urine tests, offering more detailed and trustworthy results for assessing an individual’s drug use.

Extended Detection Window

One of the key advantages of hair follicle testing in Villas, FL, is its extended detection window. Offering insights into drug use over approximately 90 days, this method helps employers understand an applicant's or employee's history more comprehensively. This capability is pivotal for roles demanding high responsibility, ensuring a reliable workforce.

Hair follicle drug testing's capability to track a person’s substance intake over an extensive period highlights its superiority. In Villas, FL, this means employers gain a broader perspective on behavioral patterns and potential risks, surpassing the limitations of shorter-detection methods like urine tests.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Villas, FL, hair follicle tests outshine traditional methods by offering tamper-resistant sample collection. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
