Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug tests in West De Land, Florida. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol screening, we specialize in hair testing with centers across all cities nationwide ready to conduct these tests. You should have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head's crown or use body hair. Hair testing can evaluate for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized hair testing needs.

In recent years, the approach to drug testing has increasingly adopted hair follicle testing. Numerous employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests serve employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probation individuals. The main advantage of a hair follicle test is its extensive drug detection window of up to 90 days, obtained through an observed collection, making it nearly unfoolable. Nonetheless, for detecting drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying the use of drugs and alcohol. It offers an extended overview of substance use by embedding biomarkers into the strands of growing hair. When hair is collected near the scalp, it can show up to a three-month usage history for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and transport-friendly.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with roughly 200 hair strands (similar in thickness to a #2 pencil) taken closest to the scalp totals to 100mg, which is optimal for both screening and verification. For EtG, supplemental, and/or over 10-panel tests, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If no scalp hair is available, an equivalent amount of body hair is acceptable. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial incorporation of a specimen into a lab’s system. This encompasses ensuring the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data input not included in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial quick examination for illicit substances. Although Screening is a cost-efficient way to eliminate drug use in the vast majority of samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation to be valid in court. Any specimens identified as presumptively positive during Screening do require a further confirmation step.

If a specimen is deemed presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are derived from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is notably challenging to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples marked as presumptively positive are washed before confirmation as necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests are capable of identifying drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a narrower detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is extremely challenging to tamper with a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Shows drug use history: It provides a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent usage: Drugs become traceable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier compared to alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: While often referred to as "hair follicle tests," the test evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In West De Land, FL, hair follicle testing triumphs over urine tests, offering superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests provide an extensive 90-day detection window, surpassing the few days offered by urine tests. This longer detection period empowers employers with a broader view of substance history. Furthermore, hair tests cannot be easily altered, enhancing their dependability and trustworthiness over urine tests.

The higher reliability of hair tests reflects in their consistent, objective results, vital for workplaces prioritizing zero-tolerance policies. These advantages make hair follicle tests a preferred choice, confirming their edge with better, comprehensive insights. By rendering a more accurate drug usage profile, hair tests stand out as the optimal choice, facilitating informed decisions that align with policy integrity in the workplace.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in West De Land, FL, offers an impressive detection window of up to 90 days, unmatched by traditional methods like urine tests, which only cover a few days. Employers gain a long-term perspective, vital for maintaining workplace safety and integrity.

The prolonged detection period is indispensable for organizations enforcing stringent drug-free policies, offering a comprehensive view into an individual's behavior, and ensuring no recent substance use goes undetected. This testing method confirms substance history with greater accuracy, critical for fostering an accountable and healthy work environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
