Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening services in Windermere, Florida. For individuals requiring a hair-based drug or alcohol analysis, we specialize in these tests and offer centers across all cities nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required from the head or other body areas. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer tailored testing options.

Recently, hair follicle testing has become a more prominent method for drug screenings. Many employers, legal courts, and substance abuse experts now prefer it over the traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, as well as courts and probation officers, often opt for this method. Its primary advantage is an extended detection period of up to 90 days, an observed collection process, and exceptional resistance to tampering. However, urine tests remain more precise for detecting drug use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of alcohol and drug use by ensnaring biomarkers within the strands. When procured from near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a roughly three-month detection timeframe for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of approximately 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is ideal for testing and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assortments beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn’t obtainable, a comparable measure of body hair can be gathered. The term head hair specifically pertains to scalp hair, while body hair includes all other kinds (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the initial sample processing into the lab’s system. It includes confirming that the sample was securely sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any required data not supplied by an electronic custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary scan for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical strategy to exclude drug consumption in most samples, any positive result must be verified before it can stand in court. Any samples presumed positive in Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

If Screening detects a presumptive positive, more hair from the primary specimen is collected and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening represents the most challenging method to conduct.

Positive screening outcomes undergo Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumed positive samples are prewashed as required before confirmation. The entire lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, undergoes review under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Cheating is difficult: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely challenging, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Offers historical information: It can illustrate a drug use pattern over time, unlike just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It requires around 5-7 days before drugs become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: While commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the test itself analyzes the hair strand rather than the folicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Windermere, FL, when comparing drug testing methods, hair follicle tests offer several advantages over traditional urine analysis. Hair testing stands out for its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, which detect drugs only within a short window, hair testing provides insights into substance use over an extended period.

The enhanced detection timeline of hair follicle testing ensures a more comprehensive view of an individual's drug history. This extended detection capability provides employers with a better understanding of an employee's or applicant's past substance use behavior.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Windermere, FL benefit from the extended detection window offered by hair follicle testing. This method can trace drug use patterns up to 90 days, offering a holistic view of an individual's substance use history. Hair follicle tests thus provide a comprehensive picture, ensuring informed decision-making for employers concerned about long-term drug usage.

The extended detection, unmatched by other testing methods, makes hair testing invaluable for understanding ongoing patterns of drug use. It serves as a key tool in maintaining a drug-free workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Windermere, FL hair follicle drug testing offers a significantly tamper-resistant method compared to other testing options. The hair follicle tests nearly eliminate the chance of sample adulteration, ensuring results are both reliable and unquestionable. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
