Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle analysis for substance detection in Bibb City, Georgia. Specializing in hair and alcohol testing, our centers span nationwide. A requirement of 1.5 to 2 inches of crown or body hair is needed in most cases for testing. We analyze hair samples for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or alternative personalized testing needs.

Recently, hair follicle tests for drugs have gained popularity over urine tests for detection. This method is preferred by numerous firms, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts. Employers with stringent drug policies, the judicial system, and probation services opt for hair testing for its extended detection period, recording up to 90 days of usage, and its near inability to be tampered with. However, for detecting substance abuse within a recent 5-day period, urine analysis remains more effective.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a comprehensive record of drugs and alcohol by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of an actively growing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to nearly three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to obtain, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of approximately 200 strands (around the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or evaluations beyond 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advised. Utilizing a jeweler's scale for weighing the sample is recommended. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable quantity of body hair may be collected. References to head hair exclusively pertain to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for drug test results encompasses four pivotal stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial procedure of registering a sample into a lab’s system. This step involves certifying that the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling in any missing data not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial, swift evaluation for substance misuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient approach to rule out drug usage among most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Any samples preliminarily positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample test positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen to prepare for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at a much lower concentration than through other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis one of the most challenging methodologies to execute.

Confirmation of any positive outcome from screening involves GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as deemed necessary. The entire lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is examined per both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a briefer detection span.
  • Difficult to falsify: It is notably challenging to deceive a hair drug test, resulting in more reliable results.
  • Offers historical insight: It can unveil patterns of drug use over time, instead of merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for substances to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations are typically costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Variability in findings: Variables like hair color and individual growth rates can influence the presence of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Despite being commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Bibb City, GA, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing by providing more comprehensive and reliable results. Unlike urine tests that only cover recent drug use, hair tests reveal long-term patterns, extending detection windows up to 90 days. This method delivers superior accuracy, allowing for the identification of ongoing substance use that might otherwise go unnoticed in urine analyses.

The reliability of hair follicle testing is evident in its ability to maintain accuracy over extended periods. Employers concerned with workplace safety can trust hair testing to provide thorough insights, avoiding the issues of tampering that often challenge urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Bibb City, GA, offers an extended window of detection, capturing up to 90 days of substance history. This broad timeframe ensures employers gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual's substance use, crucial for informed hiring and monitoring processes. Employing this method enhances workplace safety through a better understanding of an employee’s behavior over time.

By utilizing hair analysis, companies can discern a far-reaching timeline of drug usage, which is invaluable in maintaining a drug-free work environment. Employers receive assurance of an employee’s substance habits, offering evidence of substance use that spans significant periods, unlike shorter detection methods.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Bibb City, GA, drastically cut down risks associated with test sample tampering. This testing method is durable against most adulteration techniques, assuring users of the credibility and authenticity of results. The process is resistant to falsifications, guaranteeing genuine insights into an individual’s substance use, untouched by manipulation strategies often associated with alternative testing methods.

By ensuring that test results cannot be easily altered, hair follicle testing offers a trusted pathway for employers concerned with maintaining integrity in their substance testing policies. This reliability makes hair testing an invaluable tool against deception, delivering truthful results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
