Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Coolidge, Georgia. Whether you require a drug or alcohol test using hair samples, our expertise lies in hair testing, with centers across all cities Nationwide equipped to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body are sufficient for analysis. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for specific testing requirements.

Recently, hair follicle testing has become a more prevalent method for drug detection. It is increasingly demanded by employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals as a preferred choice over standard urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, court systems, and probationers utilize this testing method. Its significant advantage lies in a longer detection window of up to 90 days, coupled with a monitored collection process that is nearly impossible to tamper with. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The hair strands capture biomarkers within their fibers, offering a protracted overview of substance use. When hair is taken near the scalp, it can reveal drug and alcohol consumption for up to around three months. Collecting hair is straightforward, resistant to tampering, and easy to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (matching the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation purposes. For tests involving EtG, additional substances, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. It's best to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is insufficient, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. When we mention head hair, we refer solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial phase of integrating a sample into a laboratory’s system. This includes ensuring the sample is properly sealed and transported, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any pending data entry missing from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary check for substances of abuse. Although it’s a budget-friendly approach to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be validated to be accepted legally. Samples with a presumptive positive result in Screening must undergo further confirmation.

Should a sample yield a presumptive positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. Drugs are retrieved from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair testing is considered the most challenging methodology.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods confirm any positive screening outputs. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The complete process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation in conjunction with accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, achieving longer detection times compared to urine tests.
  • Veracity: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Chronological usage data: This testing provides insight into drug use patterns over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect immediate use: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: While commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand itself rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Coolidge, GA outshines traditional urine testing thanks to its superior detection capabilities. While urine tests reveal recent use, hair testing meticulously tracks substance use over a longer span, enhancing reliability.

For individuals and employers seeking comprehensive drug use history, hair follicle tests provide a clearer, more accurate insight than urine tests, demonstrating their robust detection power and consistency over time.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Coolidge, GA benefit from hair follicle testing’s extended detection window, capable of tracing drug use up to 90 days. This long-term view surpasses other testing methods, offering a complete overview of an individual’s history.

Such a comprehensive detection period provides employers with valuable information, essential for making informed hiring or management decisions, and reinforces the significance of using hair testing for broad timeline assessments.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
