Accredited Drug Testing provides all-inclusive hair follicle drug testing services to Eulonia, Georgia. For anyone in need of hair drug or alcohol testing, our centers are available in every major city across the nation, including Eulonia, to handle hair analysis. It requires 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head, while in many cases, body hair may be used. Such tests screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent trends, hair follicle drug testing has been increasingly adopted over traditional methods. Many businesses, judicial systems, and professionals dealing with Substance Abuse are opting for hair drug tests over the typical urine variant. Organizations with strict no-drug-tolerance, judiciary bodies, and probation-prone individuals prefer hair tests due to their extended 90-day detection period, their observed collection, and resistance to cheating. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug use, within 5 days, urine tests are still considered reliable.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as a potent means for detecting substance and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a valuable long-term record by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the naturally expanding hair strand. When cut close to the scalp, hair offers roughly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample containing around 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields approximately 100mg, the optimal amount for screening and verification. For EtG assessments, added tests, and/or evaluations above 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair isn't present, a similar quantity of body hair can be gathered. When mentioning head hair, it specifically pertains to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test result primarily consists of four steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial incorporation of a sample into the lab’s system, which ensures proper sealing and shipping, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening executes an initial rapid assessment for drug abuse signs. Although Screening rapidly excludes drug usage in most cases, a positive screen must be validated to be legally credible. Samples showing presumptive positive results in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

For presumptive positives in the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the initial collection for preparation in the Extraction stage. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than in alternative methods (ex. urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening notably challenging to conduct.

Any positive screening result undergoes Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples receive necessary washing before confirmation. From the beginning at Accessioning to the end at Confirmation, the entire lab process is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests reveal substance use for up to 90 days, outperforming urine tests with shorter detection durations.
  • High difficulty to deceive: Hair drug tests are nearly impossible to cheat, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: They offer a timeline of drug use over an extended period, rather than just recent consumption.

Constraints:

  • Incapable of detecting immediate use: Drugs require about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Though sometimes called "hair follicle tests", this evaluation studies the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
