Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Finleyson, Georgia. If a hair or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing with locations available nationwide. For a test, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the scalp or body can be used in most scenarios. These tests are capable of detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing requirements.

Recently, hair follicle tests are increasingly being utilized in drug testing. Many entities, like employers, courts, and substance abuse experts, are opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Hair tests are favored by employers with strict drug-free policies, judicial systems, and probation programs due to their extensive detection period of up to 90 days through an observed collection, making them almost tamper-proof. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug usage within 5 days, urine tests still hold superiority.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is widely regarded as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer approximately a three-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and easily transported.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (about the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the ideal quantity for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We recommend weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, the same amount of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it refers solely to scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory steps in processing a drug test result involve Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial processing of a sample into the lab’s system, including ensuring that the sample was sealed and transported properly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Although Screening is cost-effective for ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation to be court-admissible. Samples presumptively positive in Screening need a secondary verification.

If a sample is presumptively positive in the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the primary specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a highly challenging procedure.

Confirmation of any positive Screening result is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use over a span of up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficult to circumvent: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Offers historical insights: It can reveal a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair in roughly 5-7 days.
  • Higher cost: Hair drug testing is generally pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests in Finleyson, GA? The advantages are clear. Hair testing offers superior detection accuracy, providing a more reliable measure of substance use. With its extended detection window, hair tests can uncover patterns of use that urine tests might miss, offering a more comprehensive overview for employers and professionals alike.

Extended Detection Window

The hair follicle testing method in Finleyson, GA provides an extended detection window, tracing drug use history up to 90 days. This longer period offers employers a thorough insight into an individual's substance use, ensuring they're making informed decisions. Such comprehensive analysis is invaluable when aiming to maintain a safe and productive workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Employers in Finleyson, GA can rely on hair follicle drug tests for their tamper-resistant features. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
