Accredited Drug Testing provides hair follicle drug testing services in Gibson, Georgia. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, we specialize in this service and offer testing centers across the Nation, including all cities. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is sufficient. Tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized requests.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more preferred method of drug screening. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse professionals often opt for hair tests over standard urine tests. These tests are used by zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probationary individuals for their longer detection period of up to 90 days. The collection process is observed, reducing the chance of falsification. However, for more recent usage, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The strands capture biomarkers within the hair fibers, providing a lengthy history of substance use. Hair samples collected close to the scalp can reveal drug or alcohol use for up to three months. The collection process is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is simple.

A 1.5-inch section, approximately 200 strands of hair (equivalent to a #2 pencil), taken near the scalp offers about 100mg, the preferred amount for testing. Higher panels, EtG, and additional tests may require 150mg. It's advisable to weigh samples using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, the same amount of body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, it refers to scalp hair only; body hair covers all other types (such as facial and axillary areas).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing has four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial integration of a sample into the lab, confirming the sample's secure seal and shipment, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and supplementing any additional data absent from an electronic custody system.

Screening consists of a rapid initial assessment for drugs. This cost-efficient approach eliminates drug use for most samples, though a positive screen requires further verification for legal admissibility. Any positively indicated samples in Screening need additional confirmation.

For presumptive positives in the Screening, extra hair from the initial sample undergoes preparation for Extraction, a stage where drugs are drawn out at lower concentrations than in other methods (like urine or oral fluids), highlighting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive result is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, adheres to CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair testing can track drug use over 90 days, whereas urine tests cover shorter periods.
  • Difficulty in evasion: Cheating on hair tests is very challenging, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Historical insight: Hair tests can reveal usage patterns across time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Recent use detection limitation: It takes 5-7 days for substances to become detectable in hair strands.
  • Higher expense: Typically, hair tests are more costly than alternative drug testing options.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly known as "hair follicle tests," these tests analyze the hair strand itself rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing outshines urine testing in Gibson, GA through its superior detection and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis provides a more accurate long-term view of substance use, catching patterns that urine tests might miss. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
