Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Haralson, Georgia. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair testing, with facilities across all major cities nationwide that can conduct a hair test. Generally, you must have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair available on the crown of your head or from your body. Hair tests can analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide other tailored hair testing options.

In the past few years, the approach to drug testing has increasingly involved hair follicle drug tests. Many companies, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are now favoring hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are preferred by employers enforcing strict no-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation. A key advantage of hair follicle drug testing is its ability to detect drug use over an extended timeframe, typically up to 90 days, with samples collected in a monitored environment, making cheating nearly impossible. However, for detecting drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for detecting alcohol and drug consumption. Hair captures long-term drug and alcohol history by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When hair is obtained near the scalp, it offers up to a roughly 3-month detection window for these substances. This method is easy to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to dispatch.

Collecting a 1.5-inch portion consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (akin to the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is perfect for initial and confirming tests. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, it is advisable to acquire 150mg of the sample. Using a jeweler's scale for specimen weight is suggested. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. The term "head hair" refers strictly to scalp hair, whereas "body hair" covers all other hair types (like facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

The drug test laboratory procedure includes four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase where a sample is introduced into a laboratory system. This step involves confirming that the sample is properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any necessary data entry not available through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails a preliminary rapid assessment for drug abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method of eliminating drug presence in most samples, any positive results require confirmation to be legally valid. Samples with presumptive positives from Screening must undergo additional confirmation.

If Screening suggests a positive result, more hair is extracted and prepared for the Extraction phase. In this step, drugs are separated from hair at much lower concentrations than with other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS is used for Confirmation of any positive Screening results. All presumptive positive samples are washed thoroughly before confirmation. The whole process from Accessioning to Confirmation is overseen under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a much smaller time frame.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, making the findings more precise.
  • Shows usage history: It provides a record of drug use over a duration, rather than only indicating recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the examination is done on the hair strand, not the scalp's hair follicle.
