In Juliette, Georgia, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Whether you need a test for drugs or alcohol, we are experts in hair testing with locations in every city across the nation ready to conduct these tests. Typically, hair samples require 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or other body areas. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offers personalized options.

Hair follicle drug tests have become a preferred method of testing over recent years. Various entities, including employers, legal courts, and substance abuse specialists, favor hair testing over standard urine tests. These tests are utilized mainly by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies and judicial bodies. The key advantage of hair tests is a longer detection window, which can cover up to 90 days. They involve a monitored collection process and are hard to circumvent. Conversely, for detecting drug consumption within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most reliable option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an effective method for detecting the consumption of alcohol and drugs. Hair strands capture biomarkers within their fibers, offering a long-term record of alcohol and drug use. When hair is taken close to the scalp, it can offer a detection period of up to about 3 months for alcohol and substances. Hair is easy to gather, moderately resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment containing around 200 hair strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the best sample size for screening and identification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those above 10 panels, a specimen size of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar quantity of body hair can be sourced. When we mention head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for processing drug test results involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial entry of a sample into a lab’s system. This process ensures that the sample was sealed and sent correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry that an electronic chain of custody system doesn’t cover.

Screening entails an initial swift examination for drugs. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug presence in most samples, confirming a positive screen is necessary for it to be accepted in court. Any samples that show a presumptively positive result in Screening must go through a secondary confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptively positive result in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and prepped for Extraction. Here, drugs are withdrawn from hair at a lower concentration than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo a wash prior to confirmation when necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can track drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter time frame.
  • Hard to falsify: It is very challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It provides a timeline of drug use over a span of time, rather than just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Detecting drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variation: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can alter the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Juliette, GA, hair follicle testing offers noticeable benefits over traditional urine tests. Hair tests deliver superior accuracy, pinpointing drug use while minimizing false negatives. Unlike urine testing, hair testing's extended detection capacity provides a detailed overview of an individual’s substance history, making it a more effective choice.

Furthermore, the methodology of hair follicle testing significantly reduces chances of tampering, a common issue with urine tests. Employers and testing facilities in Juliette, GA, appreciate this enhanced reliability, ensuring that the results reflect true substance use patterns rather than manipulated sample results.

Extended Detection Window

For employers in Juliette, GA, the extended detection window offered by hair follicle testing is a substantial advantage. Able to uncover drug use dating back up to 90 days, hair tests provide a comprehensive view of an employee or applicant’s substance usage history. This thorough insight aids in responsible decision-making and maintaining a drug-free workplace.

The protracted period covered by hair testing presents employers with an invaluable resource, allowing them to trace substance use well beyond the limitations of traditional urine tests. This extended timeframe provides a foundational pillar in crafting informed and strategic employment policies.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The risk of sample adulteration is notably reduced with hair follicle testing in Juliette, GA. Unlike urine tests, which are prone to manipulation, hair tests are collected under supervised conditions, ensuring a reliable and tamper-proof sample. This testing method offers results that stakeholders can trust, eliminating doubts regarding sample integrity.

Employing hair follicle testing as a tamper-resistant method allows for heightened accuracy and reliability. By enforcing strict collection protocols, the potential for fraudulent samples is minimized, producing unequivocal outcomes that can support critical decisions made by employers and courts.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
