Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in La Fayette, Georgia. If you're in need of a hair-based drug or alcohol test, we're the experts in this area, with centers in cities nationwide capable of conducting these examinations. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is necessary. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or cater to other hair testing customizations.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become more common for conducting drug screenings. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse specialists often favor hair drug tests over traditional urine screenings. Companies practicing zero-tolerance policies, legal entities, and probationary programs utilize these tests. Noteworthy benefits include a longer detection period of up to 90 days, conducted in monitored situations, making them very tough to manipulate. Still, urine tests remain the gold standard for recent drug use detection within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair scrutiny has become recognized as an effective method for uncovering the consumption of drugs and alcohol. By capturing biomarkers in the fibers, hair can exhibit a long-term profile of alcohol and drug use. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer up to a near 3-month detection timeline for substances. Hair is uncomplicated to collect, relatively challenging to tamper with, and straightforward for transportation.

A 1.5-inch selection, consisting of around 200 hair strands (akin to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which is the optimal quantity for analysis and verification. For EtG supplements, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is suggested. It's advisable to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If head hair is unavailable, a similar quantity of body hair may be utilized. 'Head hair' specifically denotes scalp hair, while 'body hair' encompasses other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in the lab processing for a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the primary processing of a sample into a lab’s framework. This includes confirming that the sample was properly sealed and sent, allocating a randomized LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and accomplishing any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody record.

Screening entails a preliminary inspection for substances of misuse. Although Screening is an economical method to exclude drug usage in most samples, any positive result necessitates confirmation for legal acceptability. Samples perceived as positive in Screening mandate further confirmation.

If a sample is perceived as positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are separated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluids), making hair drug screening a challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples are washed prior to confirmation if required. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and accreditation by ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Resistance to tampering: It is highly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, thus enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Offers historical insights: It can provide a usage trend over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot reveal recent consumption: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically higher in cost compared to other drug testing forms.
  • Variability in outcomes: Variables such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests," the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle within the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In La Fayette, GA, hair follicle testing offers substantial advantages over urine testing, especially in terms of detection precision. Where traditional urine tests may fall short, hair testing excels with its longer detection window, capturing substance use histories up to 90 days. This greater accuracy makes it a superior choice for employers and legal systems alike.

Extended Detection Window

Extended detection periods are a standout feature of hair testing in La Fayette, GA. Unlike urine tests, which cover a shorter time, hair tests provide a comprehensive view of an individual's substance use over up to 90 days. This extensive timeframe ensures a more detailed substance use profile, essential for employment screenings and legal evaluations.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in La Fayette, GA, offer unmatched security against tampering. The tamper-resistant nature of these tests ensures that samples remain reliable and results indisputable. Unlike urine samples, which can be easily altered, hair tests resist adulteration, providing trustworthy outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
