Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Linton, Georgia. If you require drug or alcohol testing through hair samples, our centers nationwide, including all cities, are well-equipped to perform these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is necessary. Tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific hair testing options.

In recent years, hair follicle drug testing has become a preferred method. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often opt for hair tests over standard urine tests. These tests serve employers with zero-tolerance policies, legal authorities, and probation cases. The primary advantage is their extended detection window, typically up to 90 days, conducted under strict observation, making them hard to cheat. However, urine tests remain the best choice for detecting drug use in the immediate past five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair offers up to a 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is simple, challenging to alter, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section, approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil thickness), taken closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is perfect for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is suggested. We advise utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If head hair isn't available, the equivalent amount of body hair can be utilized. When mentioning head hair, we specifically refer to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The fundamental stages in the laboratory processing of drug test outcomes are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the preliminary integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This step involves verifying the sample's proper sealing and delivery, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening serves as an initial, rapid assessment for substance abuse. While cost-effective for excluding drug use in most cases, a positive screening necessitates confirmation to be valid in legal settings. Samples that are presumed positive in Screening require an additional confirmation step.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, further hair is collected from the initial sample for Extraction. In this stage, substances are drawn from hair at much reduced concentrations relative to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), underscoring the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screening findings is done through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if required. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning through Confirmation is inspected under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug testing can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter timeframe.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Tracks usage history: It offers a history of drug use patterns rather than only recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Fails to detect recent use: Drugs take about 5-7 days to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth rates may influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Linton, GA, hair follicle testing outshines urine tests with its superior detection capabilities. While urine tests can only identify recent drug use, hair testing covers a longer period, up to 90 days, offering a broader assessment of substance misuse. Employers and organizations benefit from the enhanced accuracy and reliability that hair testing provides, ensuring more informed decision-making.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Linton, GA, extends the detection window up to 90 days, giving employers insight into an individual's substance use history. This comprehensive view is particularly advantageous for assessing long-term drug habits, making hair testing a valuable tool for workplace safety and compliance. The extended detection period surpasses traditional short-term testing methods, offering a broader perspective.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Linton, GA, hair follicle tests are known for their tamper-resistant nature. Unlike urine samples, which are susceptible to adulteration, hair tests offer reliable and incontestable results. The integrity of the testing process ensures that the outcomes remain trustworthy, reducing doubts about sample manipulation and providing greater assurance to employers and testing authorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
