Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug examinations in Maysville, Georgia. When requiring a hair-based drug or alcohol check, Accredited Drug Testing excels in these evaluations, with accessible centers nationwide prepared to conduct such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair suffice for testing. Hair samples may reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing choices.

Recently, the preference for conducting drug tests has shifted more towards utilizing hair follicle drug tests. A growing number of employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now favor hair over traditional urine tests. Organizations enforcing no-drug policies and courts monitoring probationers often adopt hair tests. The major advantage lies in its extended detection capability, lasting up to 90 days, collected under supervision, ensuring authenticity. However, for identifying recent substance use within 5 days, the urine test remains the most accurate option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for detecting the usage of drugs and alcohol. Hair strands capture chemical indicators within their fibers, providing a lengthy history of substance use. A sample taken from close to the scalp can offer an approximate three-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drug use. Hair samples are straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches, containing around 200 hair strands (roughly the diameter of a #2 pencil), taken nearest to the scalp, yields 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for analysis. For tests involving EtG, additional analyses, or over 10 drug panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for precise measurement. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable amount of body hair can be obtained. When mentioning head hair, it pertains exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, the sample is initially integrated into the laboratory system. This step ensures the sample is correctly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any missing data not included by an electronic custody chain.

Screening provides a preliminary evaluation for drugs of concern. It serves as an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, but a positive Screening result must be verified for legal validation. Samples with a preliminary positive result from Screening require further confirmation.

For samples deemed preliminary positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the original sample and readied for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extricated from hair at notably lower concentrations than in other available testing methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluids), marking hair drug screening as a challenging process.

Positive Screening outcomes are verified using methods such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All preliminary positive samples undergo washing before Confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory process undergoes scrutiny from Accessioning to Confirmation, aligning with both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Sustained detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, which exceeds the detection period of urine tests.
  • Challenge to deceive: Hair drug tests are hard to manipulate, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Facilitates trend analysis: Offers insights into consistent drug use patterns rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Restricted recent use detection: Detection of drugs in hair takes roughly 5-7 days.
  • Higher cost: Hair drug tests typically incur greater expenses compared to alternate drug testing procedures.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Though frequently called "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair strand itself and not the underlying follicle embedded in the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Maysville, GA, hair follicle testing prevails over traditional urine tests due to its higher detection accuracy. Hair tests surpass urine analyses by identifying long-term drug use, offering a broader detection window. This reliable method ensures superior results, minimizing chances of false negatives commonly associated with urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Maysville, GA, boasts an extended detection window, up to 90 days, allowing employers comprehensive insights into an individual’s drug history. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
