Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Omega, Georgia. Should you require drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise in hair assessments across countless centers Nationwide is at your service. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of crown or body hair will suffice. Various hair tests cater to drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

Recently, drug testing methodologies have increasingly leaned towards hair follicle analysis. Employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse experts now prefer hair tests to conventional urine analyses. Hair follicle tests support zero-tolerance employment policies, probationary checks, and court-mandated testing. These tests' primary advantage is their extended 90-day detection window via an observed procedure, rendering cheating nearly unworkable. However, for recent drug screening within 5 days, urine remains the go-to.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent tool for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged timeline of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the extending hair shaft. When gathered near the scalp, it can reveal substance use over an approximate 3-month timeframe for alcohol and drugs. Collection of hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easily transportable.

A 1.5-inch piece consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil in size) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedures for a drug test result encompass four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial integration of a sample into a lab's system, verifying the sample’s proper sealing and shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any additional data entries not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary quick test for substances of abuse. While a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug use for most samples, a positive screen mandates confirmation for court admissibility. Presumptively positive samples in Screening necessitate a secondary validation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen for the Extraction process. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), hence hair drug screening is the most complex method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is performed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples that are presumptively positive undergo washing prior to necessary confirmation. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug assessments can detect substance use for up to 90 days, unlike urine exams which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Difficult to falsify: Hair drug tests are challenging to cheat, ensuring more trustworthy results.
  • Offers historical insight: They can depict a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent consumption: It takes roughly 5-7 days for substances to appear in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations are generally priced higher than other drug testing strategies.
  • Variability in outcomes: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence metabolite concentration.

Note: Often termed as "hair follicle tests", the evaluation actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle tests over traditional urine tests in Omega, GA? The reasons are compelling: superior accuracy in detection, and an impressive range that extends well beyond the confines of urine test limitations. While urine tests might detect recent use, the broader detection window of hair testing captures a more comprehensive history, providing a more reliable picture of substance use.

Extended Detection Window

One of the standout benefits of hair follicle testing in Omega, GA, is its extended detection window that can track substance history for up to 90 days. This period allows employers to gain a more complete understanding of an individual’s drug use over time. Such a broad detection capability helps in making more informed decisions regarding potential hires or current employees.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
