Schedule your Hair Drug Test

Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

In Pine Mountain, Georgia, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. If you require hair drug or alcohol screening, our specialty centers are located nationwide, equipped to conduct such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is needed. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for specific substances.

Hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become a standard method in recent years, surpassing urine tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often mandate hair tests over urine tests. Utilized by organizations with strict no-drug policies and probation services, hair tests boast a longer detection window of up to 90 days, collected in a monitored process, making them hard to falsify. However, for recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a robust means for detecting drug and alcohol use. Hair captures a detailed history of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair offers approximately a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient for transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches composed of around 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, supplementary, and/or tests above 10 panels, it is advisable to use 150mg of the sample. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. In the absence of scalp hair, an equivalent amount of body hair is acceptable. "Head hair" refers specifically to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four fundamental steps in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning starts with the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This step verifies the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and handles any necessary data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody protocol.

Screening serves as a preliminary assessment for substances of abuse. While this step is cost-efficient for excluding drug use in most cases, a positive finding necessitates further confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples with a presumptive positive in Screening must undergo additional verification.

If a sample yields a presumptive positive at the Screening phase, further hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction phase. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair with a markedly lower concentration than other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug screening is the most complex methodology.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcomes is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples with presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The entire lab sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation falls under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter timeframe.
  • Hard to tamper with: Cheating a hair drug test is quite challenging, ensuring a higher accuracy of results.
  • Offers historical insight: It provides a usage pattern over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent intake: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in the hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are usually costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual growth differences can sway the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.
