Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Pittman, Georgia. Whether you're looking for hair drug or alcohol tests, we excel in hair testing with accessible centers in various cities across the nation ready to conduct a hair test. Generally, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body is required. Hair tests can be crafted for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or personalized testing solutions.

Recent trends have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests in drug testing methodologies. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are now more inclined towards hair drug tests over conventional urine screening. Hair follicle tests are favored by employers with stringent drug-free policies, legal courts, and individuals under probationary terms. Hair tests offer a critical advantage: a prolonged drug detection window—typically up to 90 days—ensured by an overseen collection process, and boast high resistance to adulteration attempts. However, urine tests remain unrivaled for detecting drug activity within a short 5-day span.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When collected near the roots, hair can reveal a detection period of up to roughly 90 days for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the preferred sample for analysis and validation. For EtG, additional analyses, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advisable. It's recommended to weigh the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable quantity of body hair is acceptable. By head hair, we specifically refer to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases in laboratory processing of drug test results include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the preliminary processing of a sample into the lab's system. This step confirms that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further data input absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid check for substances of abuse. While Screening provides a cost-efficient method to exclude drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be permissible in court. All samples that are potentially positive in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

Should a sample test potentially positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from the hair at a considerably lower concentration compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most complex method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is carried out via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All potentially positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as required. The comprehensive laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical insights: It can demonstrate a pattern of drug use over time, beyond just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than alternative drug-testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact the levels of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the test specifically analyses the hair strand rather than the scalp’s hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Pittman, GA: Hair follicle testing provides superior detection with a more extended window period that uncovers substance use that urine testing might miss. It is considered more reliable as it minimizes adulteration risks.

The hair testing method can monitor drug use up to 90 days, a substantial leap over traditional urine tests, which are often limited to a narrow detection window, making hair tests a preferred choice for long-term insight into substance histories.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Pittman, GA: Hair follicle testing offers an extended detection period, noticing drug use for up to 90 days—a factor critical for employers requiring a thorough review of an individual's drug history.

This prolonged observation period enables employers to make more informed decisions by understanding the long-term substance use tendencies of applicants or employees, ensuring a safer workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in Pittman, GA: Hair follicle tests effectively reduce the possibility of sample tampering, ensuring reliable results. Unlike some other testing methods, the integrity of hair samples remains intact until they are analyzed.

This testing method's resistance to manipulation fosters trustworthy results, providing both peace of mind to employers and assurance in policy compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
