Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screening services in Ranger, Georgia. Our expertise lies in hair drug and alcohol testing, with facilities available in every city across the nation. Generally requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body, samples can be analyzed for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle testing has become a more common method for drug detection. Many employers, legal authorities, and addiction experts are opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Companies with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and probation departments favor hair tests due to their extensive detection window up to 90 days, under an observed collection, making them nearly cheat-proof. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the most accurate for detecting recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair sample analysis has been recognized as an effective means to identify drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of alcohol and drug use by encapsulating biomarkers within the growing hair's structure. When taken near the scalp, hair allows for up to a 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch hair sample containing roughly 200 strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) near the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or examinations exceeding 10 panels, a recommendation of 150mg is made. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be gathered. In referencing head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory drug testing process includes four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the act of initially registering a sample into the lab's system. This step involves confirming the sample's seal and shipment, generating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic custody record.

Screening serves as an initial preliminary evaluation for substances. While Screening cost-effectively eliminates drug use in most samples, a verified positive screen is required for legal admissibility. Presumptive positive samples from Screening necessitate subsequent confirmation.

For samples indicated as positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower levels than other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), underscoring why hair drug screening poses greater challenges.

Confirmation of positive screening outcomes is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are washed before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter timeframe.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Hair drug tests are more resistant to cheating, enhancing accuracy.
  • Historical usage evidence: They provide a drug usage pattern over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", this test evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Ranger, GA

In Ranger, GA, hair follicle testing provides a distinct advantage over traditional urine tests. With its superior detection capabilities, hair testing unravels a long-term view of substance use, typically tracing back up to 90 days compared to urine's short detection period. This extensive window offers a comprehensive overview of an individual's substance consumption patterns, critical for informed decisions.

Hair testing also surpasses urine tests in reliability. Unlike urine tests, which can be susceptible to external modifications and sampling issues, hair tests are collected under monitored conditions ensuring authenticity. This makes hair follicle testing a preferred choice for employers and legal bodies aiming for accurate screening in a stringent compliance environment.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Ranger, GA

The hair follicle test offers an extensive detection period, a significant benefit in Ranger, GA. Allowing drug use monitoring up to 90 days prior, it provides employers a complete view of an employee or applicant's history. This longer timeframe gives insights into patterns of substance use, allowing for data-driven employment decisions based on consistent behavioral trends.

Beyond an extensive timeline, the test's analysis of hair samples ensures every metabolite of the drug is extensively covered over the 90-day period. This comprehensive approach ensures no gap in detection, giving employers and decision-makers confidence in their drug testing results, which ultimately contributes to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
