Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle testing services in South Rockdale, Georgia. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to provider for hair testing, with centers in every city nationwide capable of conducting a hair test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required for testing. Hair samples can be tested for substances like drugs and alcohol/ETG or other specific options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a more prevalent method for substance screening. Many employers, legal bodies, and Substance Abuse specialists are opting for hair tests instead of traditional urine tests. These tests are utilized in zero-tolerance environments, by the courts, and by those on probation. A key advantage of hair follicle tests is their extensive detection period, usually extending to 90 days, performed under supervision, and almost impossible to manipulate. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the preferred choice for detecting recent drug use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a powerful method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers a prolonged history of alcohol and drug usage by capturing biomarkers in the strands of growing hair. When harvested near the scalp, hair can indicate drug and alcohol usage for up to roughly three months. Hair is easy to collect, somewhat hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) close to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample size for screening and thorough checking. For EtG add-ons and tests above 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable amount of body hair can be gathered. In terms of head hair, we only mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (like facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result comprises four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s database. This process involves validating the sealed and shipped status of the sample, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling out any missing data not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening represents a preliminary quick assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening serves as an economical method to exclude drug use in the majority of samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. Samples showing a presumptive positive in Screening require a secondary validation.

For a sample marked as presumptively positive during Screening, extra hair from the original sample is extracted for the Extraction phase. In this step, drugs are isolated from hair at a much lower concentration compared to other approaches (such as urine or oral fluid), which accounts for the complexity of hair drug screening methodology.

The verification of any positive Screening result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Any samples indicating presumptive positivity are washed before confirmation as needed. The complete lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is assessed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and with accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days back, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection timeline.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is enormously challenging, rendering the results more reliable.
  • Reveals historical usage: It can indicate a sequence of drug use over time, rather than recent abuse alone.

Drawbacks:

  • Cannot detect recent drug use: Drugs typically require 5-7 days to become identifiable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests involve higher costs than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result fluctuations: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth differentials can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Although often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the evaluation is performed on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In South Rockdale, GA, hair follicle testing clearly surpasses traditional urine tests. The detection accuracy and reliability of hair testing provides significant advantages. Hair tests offer a much broader window for detecting substances, thus providing a more comprehensive evaluation. Conversely, urine tests have a shorter detection period, thereby missing some cases of prior usage. Using hair tests ensures more accurate results.

Extended Detection Window

The ability of hair follicle testing to provide an extended detection window makes it highly valuable in South Rockdale, GA. Hair tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, granting employers a thorough understanding of an individual's substance history. This makes hair testing vital for positions that require stringent past substance use evaluation, offering a clearer and longer historical view than other methods.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests drastically minimize the likelihood of sample tampering in South Rockdale, GA. Unquestionable and reliable, they provide an accurate reflection of substance use. Unlike other methods susceptible to fraud, hair tests require strict sample collection procedures, thereby enhancing trust in their results. Employers and authorities can rely on these methods for credible outcomes in drug screening.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
