Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle testing services in Tate City, Georgia. Specializing in both drug and alcohol testing, we have a network of testing centers across the nation ready to conduct these tests. The procedure typically requires 1.5 to 2 inches of hair either from the scalp or body. Hair tests can evaluate the presence of drugs, detect alcohol/ETG, or accommodate specific testing needs.

Recently, the inclusion of hair follicle drug tests in screening processes has become more prevalent. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts are increasingly opting for hair over urine tests. These tests cater to zero-tolerance policies, legal requirements, or probationary conditions. Key advantages include a 90-day drug use detection span, an observed collection process, and high resistance to tampering, although urine tests remain accurate for recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent method for uncovering drug and alcohol consumption history. Hair maintains a long-term record of alcohol and drug use by encapsulating biomarkers within the growing hair fiber's strand. When hair is taken near the scalp, it can show a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat hard to tamper with, and easy to send.

Approximately 200 strands of hair, measuring 1.5 inches (roughly the width of a #2 pencil) and closest to the scalp, yield around 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG assessments or tests exceeding ten panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler's scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent portion of body hair may be used. When we mention head hair, it pertains to scalp hair only. Body hair includes other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key phases in the lab procedures for generating a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the preliminary processing of a sample within a lab's framework. This step involves confirming that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry that may not be provided through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial rapid inspection for drugs of abuse. While Screening offers a cost-effective avenue to negate drug consumption in most samples, any positive outcome must be validated to hold up in a legal setting. Samples yielding a presumptive positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample yield a presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at markedly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), contributing to the heightened complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screen outcome is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methodologies. All presumptive positive specimens are cleansed before confirmation when necessary. The entire laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and certification by ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use over a duration of up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more confined detection span.
  • Challenge to manipulate: The difficulty in manipulating a hair drug test enhances the accuracy of the results.
  • Historical record: It can exhibit a trend in drug use over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of recent detection: Approximately 5-7 days are needed before drugs are detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests commonly incur higher costs than other drug test approaches.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although commonly dubbed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand itself and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Tate City, GA, hair follicle testing stands superior to traditional urine tests.
Why is hair testing the better choice? It offers elevated accuracy over urine tests, presenting a thorough analysis of an individual's drug or alcohol usage history. Reliability is further enhanced since hair testing accounts for a broader range of substances.

  • Reliability and resistance to common adulteration techniques are key.
  • Hair testing circumvents the pitfalls of sample tampering that plague urine tests.

Given its comprehensive and in-depth nature, hair follicle testing offers substantial benefits over urine testing. A broader detection scope and robustness against cheating make it an invaluable choice for employers focused on maintaining a drug-free environment.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Tate City, GA, offers an extended detection window that surpasses conventional methods. This testing can trace drug use for up to 90 days, providing a more comprehensive record of a subject's substance usage.

  • Employers benefit from a detailed understanding of an applicant or employee's substance history.
  • The longer window captures a fuller picture, helping to make informed decisions.

With a coverage period extending to three months, hair testing unearths patterns of habitual use which might otherwise be missed. This detailed scope is pivotal for establishing a reliable profile, essential for businesses seeking secure and accurate testing results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
