Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Yatesville, Georgia. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, with centers across all cities nationwide capable of performing a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of your head or body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized options.

In recent times, the approach to drug testing has increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. Employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse experts are often favoring hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and those on probation utilize these tests. The primary advantage of hair follicle drug tests includes an extended detection time frame of up to 90 days, conducted under observation, and the tests are almost impossible to tamper with. For determining recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective means to trace drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a detailed timeline of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the strands as the hair grows. When taken from near the scalp, hair testing can provide a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to send.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of around 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp can yield a 100mg sample, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, supplemental tests, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advisable. It's suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair may be used. Head hair specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (e.g., facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages in the laboratory assessment of a drug test are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial entry of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process includes ensuring the sample was adequately sealed and dispatched, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling in any required data not supplied via an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary assessment for drugs of misuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective strategy to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must undergo Confirmation to be legally defensible. All samples showing presumptive positives during Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Upon obtaining a presumptively positive result during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. At this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most challenging methodology to execute.

Verification of any positive Screening outcome is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples with presumptive positives are cleaned before confirmation as required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug screenings can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is exceedingly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Yields historical data: The testing reflects patterns of drug use over time, rather than just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent use: Detectability of drugs in hair generally takes about 5-7 days.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests tend to incur higher expenses compared to other drug screening methods.
  • Variability in outcomes: Aspects like hair color and personal differences in hair growth influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite commonly being termed "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand and not the follicle located beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Yatesville, GA, the advantages of hair follicle drug testing over urine tests are evident. Hair tests boast accurate detection, first-rate reliability, and superior test performance. Unlike urine tests, which capture only recent substance use, hair tests offer a broader scope of detection periods, providing a more comprehensive look into a person's substance history.

Extended Detection Window

With an impressive detection window of up to 90 days, hair follicle testing in Yatesville, GA, offers insight into an individual’s drug usage history. This extended timeframe allows employers to gain a deeper understanding of an applicant’s or employee's long-term substance use patterns, making it an invaluable tool for informed decision-making.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Yatesville, GA, hair follicle tests are a powerful deterrent against tampering. These tests prove more resilient to manipulation than urine tests, minimizing risks of sample adulteration. This integrity ensures results are reliable, verifiable, and fortify trust in the testing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
