In Stites, Idaho, Accredited Drug Testing is your premier provider for comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments. If you're seeking a test for drugs or alcohol through hair analysis, our expertise in this testing method is unmatched. Accredited Drug Testing proudly operates facilities nationwide, equipped to conduct precise hair testing. Ideally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or other body areas is required. Our tests cover a range of substances, including drugs and alcohol/ETG, with options for customized hair testing.

Growing in popularity as a preferred drug testing method, hair follicle tests are increasingly favored over traditional urine tests. Entities such as employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals opt for hair testing due to its advantages. Companies with strict drug-free policies, as well as probationers, benefit from this method. A key advantage is its extended detection window, usually up to 90 days, with a supervised collection process that makes tampering almost impossible. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the most reliable for uncovering drug use within a recent 5-day period.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol use. Hair reveals an extended record of alcohol and drug use by trapping biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When gathered near the scalp, hair offers up to a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and easy to transport.

A sample of approximately 1.5 inches, containing around 200 strands of hair (roughly the size of a #2 pencil) and nearest the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, the perfect sample size for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advisable. We suggest weighing the specimen with a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair is not an option, a comparable quantity of body hair can be collected. In referencing head hair, we refer exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases in lab processing for drug test results encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of initially processing a sample into a lab's system, ensuring the sample was sealed and shipped correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any further data entry not captured by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial, rapid check for drug abuse. While it is a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug use across most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for court admissibility. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

For those presumptively positive in the Screening phase, extra hair is taken from the original specimen and set for Extraction. At this stage, drug extraction from hair occurs at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

A positive screening result undergoes Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are washed before confirmation if necessary. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the entire lab process is reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, contrasting urine tests which have a shorter detection window.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical data: It showcases a drug use pattern over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to be detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests are usually more expensive than other testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: While commonly called "hair follicle tests," the test examines the hair strand, not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Stites, ID, hair follicle testing far exceeds traditional urine tests in several ways. Longer detection periods: Hair tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests are limited. Minimized tampering risks: The controlled collection process of hair tests makes falsification difficult.

The accuracy of hair testing in uncovering drug habits is unmatched. Urine tests, while useful, fail to provide the same comprehensive view of usage history, giving hair tests a clear edge in reliability and precision.

Extended Detection Window

With a detection window extending up to 90 days, hair follicle testing in Stites, ID, offers a thorough overview of a person's drug history. Broader insight: This extended period captures substance use patterns missed by other tests, making it invaluable for employers seeking clarity.

Enhanced scrutiny: Employers gain a complete understanding of drug use patterns thanks to hair testing. This coverage ensures that no recent or past usage goes unnoticed, providing peace of mind.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Stites, ID, are designed to resist tampering. Compared to other testing methods, their collection process minimizes risks of adulteration, ensuring results that are beyond reproach. Secure results: The confidence in hair test accuracy stems from its stringent collection procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
