Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug screenings in Thatcher, Idaho. Should you require a hair-based drug or alcohol screening, our expertise in hair analysis is unmatched, featuring nationwide test locations. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair are necessary. Hair analyses can discern drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair test solutions.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly involved hair follicle exams. Numerous employers, judicial settings, and Substance Abuse experts favor hair tests over standard urine ones. Employers with stringent anti-drug stances, legal entities, and monitored individuals use these tests. A significant advantage includes detecting substances for up to 90 days, secured during an observed process, making cheating nearly impossible. Yet, for viewing drug use within the last five days, urine tests provide more precision.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a significant method for the detection of substance and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and various drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When taken near the scalp, hair offers up to about a 3-month detection duration for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the sample is advised. It's logical to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair specifically. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Summary

The four primary stages involved in laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step of integrating a sample into a lab’s system. This phase includes checking that the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any other required data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial rapid evaluation for substances of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method to rule out drug usage in most cases, a screen reading positive must be corroborated to be considered valid in legal situations. Any samples that are initially positive in Screening need further confirmation.

If a sample indicates a preliminary positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, substances are isolated from hair at a significantly lower level than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing the most intricate to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All initially positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is supervised under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug analysis:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug analyses can uncover drug use for up to 90 days, compared to urine tests, which provide a shorter detection duration.
  • Hard to deceive: It is quite challenging to deceive a hair drug analysis, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical data provision: It can reveal a drug use pattern over time, unlike just recent usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become detectible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses typically cost more than other drug analysis techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Notice: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the test itself evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Thatcher, ID

In Thatcher, ID, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests due to its unrivaled accuracy and detection period. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
