Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Dupo, Illinois. If you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol examination, Accredited Drug Testing is proficient in hair evaluations, and we have facilities in all cities Nationwide equipped to conduct such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body can be used. Hair analyses can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailor-made hair assessments.

Lately, the approach to drug evaluations has increasingly involved hair follicle drug tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now prefer hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. These evaluations cater to employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial entities, and probation individuals. The key advantage of such tests is a considerably extended detection time for drug use, generally up to 90 days, executed in a monitored collection method, minimizing cheating. However, for testing drug use within the previous 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

The utilization of hair testing has become a recognized method in identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of substances by securing biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When obtained near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection timeline of up to around three months for alcohol and various drugs. It's easy to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation processes. For EtG, enhancements, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a specimen weight of 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. Should scalp hair be lacking, a similar quantity of body hair may be procured. References to head hair pertain exclusively to scalp hair, while body hair denotes all additional types (e.g., facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary procedures in laboratory drug testing include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary handling of a sample into the system of a laboratory. This step confirms the sample's proper sealing and shipping, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial swift evaluation for substance misuse. Although Screening efficiently excludes drug use in most specimens, a positive screen must undergo confirmation to hold in legal contexts. Any sample with a presumptively positive Screening result necessitates a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction process. In Extraction, drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations than in other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug testing one of the most challenging techniques to execute.

Confirmation of any initially positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are laundered before confirmation where applicable. The full lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug examinations can identify drug usage for a period of about 90 days, contrasting with urine tests that have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficulty in deception: Manipulating a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical insights: It offers a depiction of substance use over an interval, rather than solely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Detection of drugs in hair takes approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug examinations tend to cost more than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair pigmentation and personal disparities in hair growth can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the examination focuses on the hair strand, not the scalp's follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When it comes to comparing hair follicle testing and traditional urine tests in Dupo, IL, hair testing stands out for its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analyses can identify drug use over months, providing a deeper insight into an individual's substance use.

The extended detection window that hair testing offers is invaluable for employers and authorities seeking reliable assessments. By choosing hair tests, the risk of sample tampering is reduced while enhancing test credibility.

Extended Detection Window

The significant advantage of hair follicle testing in Dupo, IL, is its extended detection window. Unlike other methods, hair tests can reveal drug use patterns over a period of up to 90 days. This long-term detection capability provides a comprehensive view of an individual's substance history.

Employers can benefit immensely from this detailed historical data, allowing for better-informed hiring and monitoring decisions. The ability to trace substance use over an extended timeframe presents a clearer picture of an individual's lifestyle choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
