Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Glasgow, Illinois. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is proficient in hair testing and has facilities across all cities nationwide to conduct these tests effectively. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Our hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG or other customized testing requirements.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a more prevalent method for substance screening. Many businesses, legal jurisdictions, and substance abuse experts now prefer hair drug tests over the conventional urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are utilized by organizations adhering to zero-tolerance policies on drug use, along with courts and probation officials. The main advantage of hair testing lies in its extended detection timeline for drug use, up to 90 days, captured through an observed process, and its resistance to tampering. However, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of substance use by preserving markers within the strands' fibers as they grow. When sourced near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a three-month detection window for drugs and alcohol. Hair is easy to obtain, relatively resistant to tampering, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional substances, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for accuracy. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent body hair sample may be collected. The term head hair refers specifically to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Outline of Procedure

The key stages in processing a drug test result in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary incorporation of a sample into the lab's system. This process involves checks to ensure the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening conducts an initial swift assessment for potential drug abuse. Although Screening is cost-efficient for eliminating drug use in most cases, a positive result must be validated to be legally acceptable. Any samples yielding a presumptive positive during Screening require subsequent verification.

If a sample registers presumptively positive in Screening, an additional portion of the initial hair sample is tapped and prepped for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at concentrations significantly lower than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing notably complex.

Validation of any positive screen requires GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples assumed positive are cleansed prior to Confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning through Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug analysis:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug screenings can capture drug use extending up to 90 days, compared to the shorter window of urine tests.
  • Resilience to tampering: The difficulty in altering a hair drug test enhances result reliability.
  • Delivers historical usage data: It reflects patterns of drug consumption over time, instead of just recent use.

Drawbacks:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Hair requires roughly 5-7 days before drugs are detectable.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the test examines the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When it comes to comparing hair follicle testing with traditional urine tests in Glasgow, IL, hair testing offers superior detection reliability. Its ability to identify drugs long after use clearly beats urine tests. Employers benefit from the non-invasive nature of hair testing and the comprehensive insights it provides into an individual's substance use history. The unparalleled accuracy of hair testing secures trust and compliance.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Glasgow, IL, excels with its extended detection window, uncovering drug use up to 90 days prior. This extensive timeframe provides employers with a broader, more comprehensive view of a candidate's or employee's drug history. Compared to shorter detection windows in other tests, hair follicle testing stands out as the clear choice for thorough assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
