In Kappa, Illinois, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. Whether you require a test for drugs or alcohol, they excel in hair testing and have centers nationwide capable of conducting these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the crown or elsewhere on the body is needed. Hair tests can analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized options.

Recently, drug testing methods increasingly incorporate hair follicle tests. Employers, legal systems, and substance abuse experts now prefer this method over standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests are the choice for employers with strict drug policies, legal proceedings, and probation monitoring. These tests offer a longer detection window, reaching up to 90 days, are observed during collection, and are nearly impossible to tamper with. Yet, urine tests remain the most accurate for identifying recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have emerged as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair archives a prolonged record of alcohol and other substances by securing biomarkers within the fibers of the maturing hair strand. When excised near the scalp, hair may offer up to roughly a 3-month detection window for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of about 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the perfect sample for analysis and validation. For EtG extensions and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unobtainable, a comparable quantity of body hair may be obtained. In discussions about head hair, we denote scalp hair exclusively. Body hair refers to all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary steps in laboratory handling of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the initial handling of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This entails verifying that the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any extra data processing not supplied by a digital chain of custody framework.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of misuse. While Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to exclude drug utilization in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be acceptable in legal contexts. Any samples that are suspected positive in Screening indeed require a subsequent validation.

If a sample is suspected positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening stands as the most complex technique to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All suspected positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, compared to urine tests which offer a shorter detection window.
  • Challenges in deception: It is extremely challenging to deceive a hair drug test, making the results more precise.
  • Delivers historical insights: It provides a pattern of drug consumption over an extended period, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect immediate use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to be discernible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments are generally pricier than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Variability in outcomes: Elements such as hair coloration and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis itself examines the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Kappa, IL, offers significant advantages over traditional urine tests. Hair tests boast superior detection accuracy, making them an ideal choice for comprehensive screening. They are more reliable and provide longer detection periods, ensuring that employers receive a more accurate picture of substance use.

Unlike urine tests, hair follicle tests can detect a broader timeline of drug use history, contributing to more informed decisions regarding employment and compliance with zero-tolerance policies.

Employers find that hair testing not only reduces the risk of false negatives associated with urine tests but also upholds stricter standards of workplace safety, giving them peace of mind.

Extended Detection Window

The extensive detection window of hair follicle testing in Kappa, IL, sets it apart from other testing methods. Capable of identifying drug use up to 90 days prior, it gives employers a comprehensive view of an individual's substance use history.

This extended detection period is invaluable for maintaining workplace safety and adhering to drug-free policies. Employers are empowered with detailed insights that help in evaluating current employees or potential hires.

By covering a longer detection timeline, hair testing supports a proactive approach to substance abuse management in Kappa, IL.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Among the key benefits of hair follicle tests in Kappa, IL, is their robust resistance to tampering. Unlike other testing methods, hair tests are not easily adulterated, ensuring results that are both reliable and reputable.

For employers and legal professionals, this aspect of hair testing is critical, as it safeguards against attempts to alter test outcomes. It upholds the integrity of the process and the credibility of the results.

Choosing hair follicle testing contributes to a trustworthy testing environment, reducing the risk of false results that can impact workplace or legal decisions in Kappa.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
