Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Rardin, Illinois. For individuals requiring a hair drug or alcohol evaluation, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis, with testing facilities across all cities Nationwide capable of conducting a hair assessment. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of the head or body can be utilized. Hair analyses can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other specialized hair testing services.

Of late, the method to conduct drug assessments has increasingly embraced hair follicle drug analysis. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now prefer a hair drug analysis over a conventional urine evaluation. Hair follicle drug analyses are employed by firms with uncompromising drug-use policies, judicial bodies, and individuals on probation. The key advantage of a hair follicle analysis is its significantly extended detection span for drug usage, commonly reaching up to 90 days, ensuring integrity via an observed collection process and minimal chance of manipulation. However, for drug use detection within the last 5 days, the urine evaluation remains the most precise test.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective approach for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within the strands during growth. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer an approximately 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. It is easy to gather, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch hair section comprising around 200 strands (equivalent to a #2 pencil's width) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, optimal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additions, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a recommendation of 150mg of the sample is made. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample is advised. In the absence of scalp hair, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. References to head hair imply scalp hair specifically. Body hair denotes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four primary phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the sample's initial integration into a laboratory system. It includes validating that the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails a preliminary assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug use in most samples, a confirmed positive screen is required for court admissibility. Samples indicating a presumptive positive outcome in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample show a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. In this stage, drugs are retrieved from hair at a lower concentration than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), lending to the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests detect drug use up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests that have a shorter detection window.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It presents a drug use pattern over time, beyond recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: Approximately 5-7 days are needed for drugs to become visible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual variations in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Often termed as "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand instead of the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outperform urine testing in Rardin, IL? The answer lies in its superior accuracy and reliability. Hair testing offers an extensive detection window and nearly foolproof results, while traditional urine tests fall short in detecting long-term substance use, highlighting hair testing's unmatched efficacy.

Extended Detection Window

In Rardin, IL, hair follicle testing provides an extended detection window, effectively tracing drug use over an impressive span of up to 90 days. This capability allows employers a thorough insight into an individual's substance use pattern, offering a wide-reaching historical perspective often absent in shorter detection methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
