Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in West Peoria, Illinois. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we specialize in hair testing and have facilities across all cities nationwide ready to conduct a hair test. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed, either from the crown of your head or body. Hair analyses can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer tailored hair testing solutions.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become a popular method for drug testing. Many employers, legal entities, and substance abuse specialists prefer this over a traditional urine test. These tests are employed by firms with strict drug policies, the judicial system, and those on probation. The main advantage is its extended detection window, up to 90 days, with an observed collection that's hard to tamper with. Still, for drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. By trapping biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand, hair delivers an extensive timeline of alcohol and other drugs usage. Obtained near the scalp, hair samples can render a detection span reaching approximately 3 months for drugs and alcohol. Hair is straightforward to collect, less susceptible to tampering, and simple to send.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising roughly 200 hairs (comparable in diameter to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp supplies 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis. For EtG, additional testing, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a specimen measuring 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. If head hair cannot be sourced, a similar quantity of body hair is acceptable. When mentioning head hair, we specify scalp hair alone. Body hair indicates any other styles of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory handling of a drug test result involves four major stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the sample's initial processing into the lab’s framework. This process ensures that the sample was securely sealed and dispatched correctly, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input not furnished by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid evaluation for substances of abuse. Although Screening serves as a budget-friendly approach to negate drug usage in most samples, a positive result must be verified to be valid in legal settings. Samples indicated as presumptively positive in Screening require further confirmation testing.

Should a sample be marked as presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial collection, readying it for Extraction. Drugs are isolated from hair at a markedly lower concentration than other approaches (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screenings the most challenging to perform.

Verification of any positive Screening result is carried out through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation if necessary. Each laboratory stage from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited in line with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug evaluations can spot drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection range.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is particularly challenging, garnering more precise outcomes.
  • Historical insights: It presents an outline of drug use over time, not simply recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs need about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments are typically pricier than other drug testing methodologies.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis examines the hair strand itself, not the scalp-based hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in West Peoria, IL is a testament to its longer detection window and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair testing provides a comprehensive look at drug use over months, increasing the testing scope to as much as 90 days. This extensive time frame allows employers to detect consistent substance use, giving a clearer picture than the brief detection offered by urine tests, which are more limited in duration.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window characteristics make hair follicle testing a preferred choice in West Peoria, IL. Unlike other methods, hair tests track substance use for up to 90 days, providing employers with a full scope of an individual’s consumption history. This feature ensures a thorough understanding of an applicant’s lifestyle choices, aiding in better-informed hiring decisions and reinforcing workplace safety.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in West Peoria, IL ensures maximum reliability by largely eliminating the chance of sample adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
