Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug testing in Clifford, Indiana. If you're in need of a drug or alcohol test using hair samples, we are experts in this domain, with facilities across the nation equipped to conduct such tests. Ideally, you'll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, typically from the head, though other body hair can be used as well. Hair can be analyzed for various substances, including alcohol/ETG and more customized options.

In recent times, drug testing methods have increasingly favored hair follicle tests. Employers, legal bodies, and substance abuse experts now often prefer hair testing over conventional urine samples. Hair tests appeal especially to employers maintaining zero-tolerance policies, as well as judicial systems for those on probation due to their vastly longer detection period of up to 90 days. Although, for substance detection within the past few days, urine tests still stand as the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drug exposure by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the growing strand. When collected near the scalp, hair samples can offer a detection window of up to roughly 3 months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and easy to send.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of about 200 hairs (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If head hair is not available, a corresponding quantity of body hair can be gathered. References to head hair specifically denote scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four key phases in the laboratory process of a drug test result comprise Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This process involves confirming that the sample was adequately sealed and dispatched, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concluding any supplementary data input absent in an electronic chain of custody setup.

Screening constitutes an initial brief inspection for drug usage. Though Screening is an economical method to negate drug presence in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require additional confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive in the Screening phase, further hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at a considerably lower concentration compared to alternate methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most challenging approach to execute.

The verification of any positive screening outcome is completed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are washed before confirmation if necessary. The full range of laboratory procedures from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can uncover drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • High resistance to deception: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Supplies cumulative data: It may reveal a pattern of prolonged drug usage, not only recent instances.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: It typically takes 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair tests are often pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result discrepancies: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth can impact the detection of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment evaluates the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine tests in Clifford, IN, hair follicle tests excel in many aspects. The advanced detection capability of hair testing ensures a more comprehensive assessment of substance use. While urine tests are mainly suited for detecting recent use, hair tests provide insights into a longer timeframe.

Hair tests are more reliable and harder to deceive, offering a distinct advantage over urine testing. Clifford residents benefit from the superior detection accuracy that hair testing provides, ensuring a more thorough analysis of substance use.

Extended Detection Window

In Clifford, IN, the extended detection window of hair follicle testing provides employers with a detailed view of an individual's substance history. Unlike urine tests, which are limited to recent use, hair tests can identify drug use up to 90 days prior, offering a more comprehensive perspective.

This extensive timeframe supports employers in making informed decisions, particularly when evaluating potential hires or current employees. By choosing hair testing, Clifford businesses gain a thorough understanding of substance use patterns over several months.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle test in Clifford, IN, offers a tamper-resistant method that substantially reduces the risk of sample adulteration. The collection and testing process ensures the integrity and reliability of results, minimizing any possibility of manipulation or cheating.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
