Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug analysis in Dubois, Indiana. Whether it’s hair drug or alcohol testing you require, we excel in these services with locations in every city across the Nation ready to conduct your test. Ideally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body is needed for the process. Our hair analysis options include drugs, alcohol/ETG or tailored testing solutions.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have gained popularity as a preferred method for substance detection. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse authorities often favor hair analysis over urine tests. Employers with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and probationary personnel find hair tests advantageous. They detect drug use up to 90 days, are collected with visible supervision, and provide nearly foolproof results. For substance use under 5 days, urine tests remain highly reliable.

What it is, How it works

Hair evaluations have garnered recognition as an effective method for uncovering drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged record of alcohol and drug usage by embedding biomarkers within the growing hair shaft. Collected near the scalp, hair can present up to roughly a 3-month window for alcohol and drug detection. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient for dispatching.

A 1.5-inch sample composed of approximately 200 hair strands (akin to the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and verification. For EtG, additional analyses, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It is recommended to weigh the sample using a jeweler's scale. If hair from the scalp is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair might be utilized. References to head hair are intended to mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair denotes all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary handling of a sample within a lab's framework. This procedure involves ensuring the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, attributing a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial rapid assessment for abusive substances. Though Screening is an economically viable approach to exclude drug presence in most samples, a positive screen mandates confirmation to be legally valid. Samples that are provisionally positive during Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample prove presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are removed from hair at a markedly lower concentration than in other approaches (such as urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screening finding is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All provisionally positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug assessments can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection range.
  • Fraud-proof: Evading a hair drug test is notably challenging, thus the results are more dependable.
  • Demonstrates usage history: It can reveal a trend of drug consumption over time, beyond just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to become discernible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically incur higher costs than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual growth differences impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Dubois, IN, boasts superior detection capabilities and reliability over traditional urine tests. One major advantage is its extensive detection window, uncovering drug use patterns over a prolonged period. This comprehensive analysis supports workplaces in maintaining a drug-free environment more effectively than short-term urine testing.

Comparatively, hair tests provide a clearer, longer-term view of drug use habits. While urine tests focus on recent usage, hair analysis ensures a broader look into potential substance abuse, proving advantageous for organizations where consistent drug-free behavior is crucial.

Extended Detection Window

The remarkable advantage of hair follicle testing in Dubois, IN, lies in its extended detection window. Capable of identifying substance use for up to 90 days, it provides a detailed overview of an individual's drug history. For employers, this holistic view aids in making more informed decisions about employee conduct and substance use.

Unlike traditional methods, hair testing doesn’t limit insights to recent usage. Instead, it unveils patterns over weeks and months, offering a robust tool for those who prioritize long-term safety and integrity in the workplace. This extended analysis is invaluable, particularly for roles demanding unwavering accountability.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Dubois, IN, hair follicle testing triumphs with its tamper-resistant nature. This method significantly minimizes the chance of sample fraud, ensuring results are reliable and undisputed. Whereas urine tests can be manipulated, hair tests provide a security advantage that is hard to challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
